That is the annoying part that they either still not understand or they really want the far right in power. I’m at the point now where not knowing isn’t really a viable explanation anymore. The other explanation is scarier though.
No he is just stupid. He thinks the AfD only exists because Merkel was too left and all he has to do is move back to the right, which he sees as “the Center” apparently, which only further legitimate the AfD as only directly right to “the Center”.
Sounds an awful lot like the Dutch VVD.
You missed the part where he says he wants to distance himself more from the AfD.
And then puts stuff up for vote in parliament that he knows will only succeed because of votes from AfD.
