The gacha games are successful for a reason. It’s easy to write them off if you haven’t played them but the successful ones are all quite competent both as games and as gambling traps.
Even the booba ones.
Yeah that’s the thing I’m saying. If you set aside the ones that fail, all the successful ones are genuinely good games within their genre. Maybe not for everyone because not everyone likes every genre, but “breath of the world style fantasy rpg” is very well catered to by Genshin, and “Action combat team-combo game” is very well catered to by ZZZ, etc etc. Each one is filling a different niche and usually filling it very well.
Eventually one of these companies is going to go after Fifa, a football team gacha game full of anime characters will be quite successful if they nail gameplay.
Just fyi, it starts small intentionally. If you feel yourself thinking, “just a few bucks couldn’t hurt” gtfo
I’ve spent like $10-15 on another gacha game a while back and did not spend any more. I think I’m fine here
FIFA is extremely successful with ultimate team which is damn well a gacha model. Hell its been accused of being predatory to kids. FIFA 21 made 1.49 billion from ultimate team mode alone. Since its pretty much has a monopoly on football its a damn cash cow
Yeah that’s my point. Some company could come and take EA’s lunch by doing it but with characters that have bright and fun personalities and designs instead of the boring as fuck footballers. The footballers are the weakest link.
Hmmm I can’t say that tbh. The footballers can have unique characteristics. The appeal of getting legends on the card is elite. Footballers are larger than life personalities so they are a massive selling point. A bunch of NPCs in football just wouldn’t be the same. Part of the appeal of FIFA is the simulation aspect and some of the realism (I’m using realism loosely). Its why a game like football manager which seems like it would be bland sells like crazy. Same with Madden
