    What does she think would happen if Greenland declared independence?.. That the US would just honour that?

    The only two options on the table at the moment, as unfair as it is, are staying with Denmark and NATO or being absorbed into the United States. Independence would mean defacto becoming part of the US.

        Would that necessarily entail that China sends settlers? If not, it would probably be a better deal for them than getting conquered by the USA. And I say this as someone who thinks that the PRC fucking sucks.

      That depends on how independence is handled. Denmark/Europe could still ensure defence of an independent Greenland. As much as they can right now at least…

        And why would they? No European country would send their troops into a war against the US to defend a former European country that just declared independence.

          It’s unlikely that any European country will send troops to war against the US either way. But leaving that aside, an independent Greenland would still be associated and integrated with Europe. Everything else would basically be suicide for the country and it’s also in Europe’s interest to keep Greenland within its sphere.
