No, it wouldn’t. But it has another positive outcome. I don’t know if that’s what Björk is alluding to, but if Greenland would become independent and the USA would invade there would be no need for Denmark and NATO to do something and consequently NATO would not be on the brink of collapse.
I still think that NATO isn’t on the brink of collapse since they could just throw the USA out. We’d still have a nuclear shield by means of France and Britain and while the US is a big contributer the other members of NATO are still there and could muster a defense.
I also think that it isn’t a good idea to sacrifice Greenland to us imperialism because it won’t stop them. It wouldn’t stop Putin it didn’t stop Hitler, it will not stop the Trump administration.
That makes me think Bjork wants to prevent the dissolving of NATO - as European officials have said it would spell death of trust within NATO, which is paramount for it’s continued relevance.
Yes, Bjork, that’s what Greenlanders voted for in 2025. But they call themselves gradualists because they want to take it slow.
They could declare independence tomorrow and Denmark would respect it - as the Danish government has alluded to.
But the question remains: would that deter US imperialism?
