… because all insulting stereotypes are unfair.

Thats… did you actually read my comment, the last 1/3rd ish?

Further, you’re not really even describing an insulting stereotype, with your new scenario.

You’re describing using a specific insult term.

        A slur.

Can you see how that’s not the same thing as a stereotype?

I also find it funny that you would even use the term cracker to describe a white resident of Greenland… when … well, you would think that if there is some equivalent term in Greenlandic or Danish, it’s probably not the same term, or a transliteration of it.

You’re projecting your own cultural frame of reference onto another.

Meanwhile, also in this thread, I’ve got another critic assuming I am going to justify the usage of a ‘tactical slur’.

I’m not permaonline enough to know precisely what that means, but it is funny to me that on the one hand, one person is criticizing me for assuming I would argue in favor of that, yet I’ve also apparently offended your sensibilities, and you’re throwing out cracker, specifically as a slur.

… because all insulting stereotypes are unfair.

Wrong. The correct answer was “because dropping N bombs is racist”

          • Dunking on vulnerable drug addicts / thinly-veiled racism

          “silly stereotype”

          • saying cracker

          “Hey, stop throwing around slurs!”

Ah, so youre just one of those “reverse racism” types. If you seriously get all flustered about “slurs” when the word “cracker” comes up, I think we all know what side you’re on.

            No, you’re missing my point.

I agree that throwing the N word around is wrong, because it is a racist slur.

But my point was that your presented scenario was presented as if it was directly analagous.

It is not, because a stereotype and using a racist slur are not the same thing.

Those two things may often be related, but they are not the same thing.

You are conflating two related, but distinct concepts.

I have been using the phrase ‘insulting stereotype’.

            Not ‘silly stereotype’.

You are putting words in my mouth and misrepresenting what I have been saying, by making that modification.

You can think you know what side I am on, by continuing to simply assert a strawman of my position, or, you could attempt to grapple with the position I am actually presenting, instead of continuing to misunderstand/misrepresent it.

I simply added that last part as something that personally amused me, its incidental.

I was noting that I’ve got two different people arguing against me who would presumably also argue against each other, given the logic / rhetorical tactics they are using against me.

Also, when you yourself juxtapose crackers and the n word in the same sentence… how can you avoid that cracker is a slur, and that you used it in that way?

Obviously it is nowhere near as insulting or a severe and horrific thing to say as the n word, but you still meant it and used it as a slur.

            EDIT:

Further… maybe this is our fundamental disconnect:

I’ve been homeless. I’ve been physically held captive for a fucking week by a white fentanyl addict who was living in a fucking alternate reality, lost his goddamned mind, I still can’t really even understand how I survived that situation.

Yeah, you can go with the idea that black and brown folk are structurally socioeconically disadvantaged and are thus more likely to become fentanyl addicts, therefore I am being implicitly racist by not being offended by the implicit idea that I guess most fentanyl addicts in the US are black and brown.

But I can tell you with from my lived experience that the majority of fent addicts I met in my 2 year ‘sabbatical’ of homelessness were actually white, simply because there are so many white people, and because really all that is required to become a fentanyl addict is to become homeless or be very poor… and while yes, its structurally more likely that a minority will be in that situation, the actual reality is that in America, becoming a fent zombie is a path of social caste ‘progression’ that is available to anyone, anyone who is desperate and broke, anyone who falls far enough through enough cracks in the system.

And beyond that… many of those addicts were doing their damndest to get or stay clean. Many of them weren’t. Many of them were ashamed of their addiction, what it drove them to do, many of them weren’t.

All colors and creeds for all of that.

I am the exact opposite of the person who thinks it is some kind of fair or ok to mock addicts.

But I am capable of considering multiple points of view.
