Neither? After Vietnam, the US doesn’t have the stomach/naivety to put up with that again. The US isn’t on a war economy. There aren’t two other massive countries supporting and supplying Iran. War isn’t waged that way anymore. It’s not going to be Vietnam, and it’s not even a semi cool war. It’ll go down as as distraction (hopefully not the distraction) from the criminality and depravity of the Epstein class. Iran will remain a power in the region and the world will have yet another reason not to trust the US.
Technically, the US has the stomach for the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.
The problem right now is that the current policy goals for the war don’t match the current use of force occurring. I don’t see Iran capitulating without an invasion and Trump is likely going to need some sort of Congressional authorization or funding to continue the war.
My biggest concern with this is that it opens the door wide for China to attack Taiwan. No laws are left. I’m not Taiwanese or anything, but we all know how reliant the world economy is on both countries, and just the semiconductors issue is a major blow for the US economy, to which they cannot sit and watch.
If the US goes into that, it’s anyone’s game, and obv WW3. Russia can’t sit that out either, given their new status.

My only concern is Iran falling into a civil war and a failed state

I think that’s a completely valid concern.
