So they’ll document how to root them for anyone who wants to run 3rd party firmware/OS, right?
They’ll send you paperback versions of the books you bought, right? New copies on a supported versions?
You know what doesn’t end of life? A book.
You might want to have a quick think about what you just said because it’s definitely wrong lol. Books, like all physical media, have an end of life. Books especially are easily destroyed or lost.
Well, I can think of a few things that could easily end a books life, but I guess they would also end a kindle’s life too.
I’m still using a Kindle Paperwhite first generation. Mostly getting ebooks from Anna’s Archive than use Calibre to convert to azw. I also have it Jailbroken and installed a epub and better pdf reader. However, I barely use those.
TBF:
My two similarly aged non-Amazon EPUB-readers lost the capability to download DRM-books already 5 or 6 years ago.
Certificates ran out, Adobe versions too old, no chance for firmware updates.Thankfully I am not really affected by it, as l anticipated exactly that early on.
If a book was not available without hard DRM, I would not buy it.
And acquiring it DRM-free by different means instead doesn’t even feel like piracy. More like what I did during typically sold-out open-air-concerts at my old place: bringing a picnic basket to the hill beside the stadion where they took place and listen from there. This is exactly the way I view piracy. Just watching a football match outside the fence, that’s all.
That white kindle is very cassette-futuristic.Looks like a prop from an Alien movie.
I found an old kobo and they would not let me activate it due to it being unsupported. I wanted to wipe it and use it fresh. little did I know that I would cause me to have to activate it.
I was able to find a hacky way to fix it and use an ereader.
Why is everything like this these days?
jailbreak your kindles folks
Oh nyoo, they ran out of money to support them :(.
