Republicans in Congress voted to fund the Department of Homeland Security Thursday, effectively ending the 76-day shutdown of the department.
The bill, passed by a voice vote in the House, is a win for Democrats, as it still includes no money for ICE or Border Patrol, and is now headed to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law. House Speaker Mike Johnson reportedly decided to finally support the bill after a private meeting with his fellow Republican leaders earlier in the day, where they agreed that the situation couldn’t continue.
The GOP will still try to fund ICE through the reconciliation process, which takes much longer but only requires a simple majority in both chambers of Congress.
Good. Now do it with that stupid fucking war.
Democrats will hopefully learn from this that they should hold their ground in the future instead of rolling belly up at the first sight of inconvenience
DHS not being funded is the least of dems worried, when they already did too much damage from ending the atc shutdown.
I think some will, but Schumer definitely won’t
Hopefully voters take note and kick his ass to the curb.
sadly senators are pretty much entrenched since they have 6year terms.
Hakeem, slotkin and fettermen joins him. and 13 other dem senators.
They shouldn’t have upped DHS money.
… Is Hell frozen over?
The… Dems in Congress… actually did something?
its one that dint affect things significantly, thats why it was easy win. something like another ATC would cause problems. im betting if another one like last year happened again, schumer and hakeem wouldve likely caved as well using another rotation of sacrificial dems.
Finally, among all the terrible and stupid news, a little bit of good news. For now.
MAGA is going around saying that the shutdown is over and they got everything they wanted. Meanwhile, ICE is still effectively shutdown, which is good. They can stay “shut down” forever.
What, backbone?
No, pressure.

It’s a trick, get an axe
