The right revolt all the time, maga, the libertarian movement, and the tea party all sent the politicians falling over eachother to try to be what they thought the base wanted.

Republicans fear their voters, democrats despise their voters.

It’s more like the actual leftists don’t really vote, so the democrats don’t cater to them. The corporate wing of the party actively tries to push them out.
If the leftists got organized and started voting out dems in the primary these people would change their tune.

      Republicans fear their voters

Not anymore. After the tea party shenanigans, Republicans realized it was easier to use mass media to program people on what to hate, and keep them distracted.

A bunch of republicans lost primaries and generals because the party let insurgents meaningfully challenge them and didn’t burn down the house the way the dems react to DSA obtaining power.

Probably. But I attribute it to there being less ideological dissonance between the republicans donors and voters and democrats donors and voters.

Republicans can tell their base they’re going to hurt everybody to make the rich richer and they’ll accept it if they blame oppressed people and foreigners. Democrats have to lie to their base and come up with excuses for why they are hurting everyone to make the rich richer.
