One leading privacy lawmaker said it was time to “start treating the adtech industry as a national security threat.”

From my understanding, this sort of thing was also used by Ukraine to identify where Russian soldiers were. Not ad tech specifically, but stuff like cell tower usage spikes from the troop’s cell phones.
Haaaaaaaang on. The ad industry has been targeting civilians for literal decades, and that’s fine. No outrage from our government that it’s citizens are being spied on by big businesses. Nope.
But now that it’s your own armies that are getting targeted ads, NOW it’s a problem. You realize that if you’d have had this reaction 20+ years ago, it would have ended 20+ years ago. It never would have advanced to the stages it’s been at for years. It would be all highway billboards and dumb advertisements.
But it’s ok. You don’t give a shit about your citizens. Not even just the current administration. I’m talking basically every administration since Clinton. Could have stepped in at any time, and yet I never once remember the government trying to do ANYTHING to help put any road blocks against corporations abusing citizens. If anything, it feels like you’re in bed together.
So it comes as no surprise that you didn’t care then, but NOW you do.
the smell of unsurprise fills the air
None of them care about anything but money or the power it gives them
no shit son
Man, I get all these ads about drone nettings…
“We’ve been trying to contact you about your drone warranty.”
Lol. Lmao even.
