Loses consciousness and shits pants? Could it be? No? Awwwwwwwww, fuck.
For the naysayers:
Well yes, it does just frame reality as it is and calls it a day. It’s not high art. However, it does serve a purpose.
There is still a portion of the American population who views the drumpf as god on earth. As disgusting as that may be.
Putting him in a 4 panel format might help to break that illusion for some of those people, probably not right away but it can help change the discourse.
This type of meme or comic is hard to ignore because the message is simple, direct and it doesn’t say that much that it leaves things open for interpretation.
When I left reddit I was worried about not having a good source of fallacies to use as examples in my Logic class. Blessed lemmyverse and threads like this one keep me fueled with hilarious examples.
Conan was right, this shit is beyond satire and it just seems weird to see comedians try to take it on.
It’s hella hard to crack jokes about being so far beyond satire. Like did you see turnip literally post a picture of himself as Naruto the other day?
Like it was so unreal that I didn’t believe it at first but sure enough, it was in the middle of one of his AI slop fueled posting sprees in the middle of the night.
Even Hillary was 100% correct.
But hey, her emails are a huge deal eh
Buttery males!
Funny thing about comedians is that all the good ones tap way too hard into reality, share “that” with us / explain things to us / make us lol / protect us from it - and are ultimately shattered by that experience. Almost to a rule.
So yep. What’s left? And who?
Remember when calling someone “presidential” was a compliment?
Remember when half the country or more kept saying he’ll pivot to being presidential any day now for like all his first term?
It was only like a third, another third was calling him a fat piggy idiot… then the last third just kept saying “they’re all like this” as an excuse not to do anything about it.
Oh, I might start using that as an insult! That’ll be novel at least. I might as well get something out of this shit.
I mean, I agree with the sentiment, but the only “joke” in this comic is literally zero exaggeration on the orange clown…
I agree. Her drawing style is fun but most of the comics are just pandering without any additional joke or commentary. It’s basically a political cartoon.
You’re right, but good luck convincing anyone this comic is anything other than comedic genius.
This place loves her, and I cannot fathom why.
This place loves her
Everytime anything from this person is posted, there’s a swat of people that actively come in to say “I don’t like that”. Which is both, like, ok, why are you telling me this? And also, not exactly fitting your statement either.
Most people, faced with something they don’t care about, just ignore it instead of clamoring it in public.
I hate to be the one to point it out, but not all comics are jokes. They’re often used to summarize an absurdity, observation or viewpoint in a concise graphical format that’s easy to digest and share.
It’s also not telling us anything we don’t already know.
Pointless.
Yet here you are talking, not telling us anything new. Not adding anything to the conversation.
Why are you trying to convince people this instead of just ignoring the artist that you don’t care for?
I have a theory:
She made a comic strip at some point that specifically made fun of a behaviour that this guy has been called out for
When people agreed with her, whatever it was, he felt personally slighted and has had an axe to grind ever since
It’s not likely that he is capable of thinking about his behaviour though, so he’s just going to keep digging in deeper
It’s super weird you have such a strong opinion about a very inoffensive artist.
- I dislike her art style, no idea why it annoys me. It’s better than CTRL-ALT-DELETE art, surely.
- It’s never made me snort
Certain people really feel the need to point out how much they don’t like her. You could probably add a word filter on your lemmy app to hide posts with pizzacake in the title. Wouldn’t catch all of them, but the last few I’ve seen have had the artist name in the title.
When I share other people’s work I try to post the artist in the title partly for this reason and also for searchability.
If people don’t want to see a thing it’s generally pretty easy to not see it and incredibly easy to not engage when it does slip through their filters. But alas, too many people base their identity on yucking other’s yums so they clamor on any opportunity to proclaim “I’m better than you because I hate this popular creator”
Because it echoes our opinions. I too find it banal.
Probably another astroturfing tbh. The comics feed has been getting slammed with them ever since more reddit folks have been coming here.
I’m just sharing comics of an artist who I enjoy, and honestly the only ones I’ve seen recently on here were the ones I shared.
I haven’t seen her work around Lemmy in awhile and judging by the reception it appears to be quite welcome.
Fair enough. The artists history is sketchy and lends itself to that sort of speculation
Quite possibly, a number of reddors thought they were achieving something by posting her content, since so many people don’t like her.
I remember when this happened and it was one of the saddest moments this country has ever seen. More people should have been upset.
That sums up the most resent Meet the Press interview really well.
A Human shouldn’t be like this
The American “News” Media: “Dear Leader Gives Bold Answers To Unfair Question!”
Wow so insightful.
There’s no joke here, no humour, just the author’s opinion. What is the point of this comic?
Are you familiar with political cartoons, and with the idea that an author can use their space to share items that may differ in tone or intent from their typical material?
I’m sorry, but I don’t find any of Pizzacake’s content funny or clever or poignant or having any other value as a political comic strip; or otherwise for that matter. I really don’t get the appeal. Is there something I’m missing? I’m familiar with her work, I’ve been seeing it for years. It just feels like there’s a joke or an angle to it I’m not getting
In this case, I’d say the point is providing a bit of relief to people who feel that the current U.S. president is not a good fit for the role and who are frustrated with the biggest news outlets not shining a light on how absurd he is.
may differ in tone or intent from their typical material?
This is her typical material, or at least the only material that gets posted here.
Opinions and humour aren’t mutually exclusive.
That you personally don’t find it humourous doesn’t necessarily mean it lacks humour.
If you want to complain about the authors political opinions, do that directly.
Pretending that you don’t understand how subjective humour works instead of saying what you mean is weak of character.
Unless you genuinely didn’t know humour can be different for different people?
The point of the comic is for the artist to show everyone their opinion. This is something that they are allowed to do.
We shouldn’t have a president at all and “presidential” was never a compliment when all were genocidal war criminals.
Then what should we have mate?
Given their username, I’m gonna guess a CEO.
Ugh…
