    More the point is that anyone experienced enough to run Doctor Who will have their own projects they want to do, and would be less willing to give up several years of their career to become an employee borrowing someone else’s toys.

    Literally the only person willing to take over from Moffat was Chris Chibnall, and only then because the BBC told him they would have to cancel the show otherwise.

    They could look at American showrunners, but Doctor Who is such a cultural institution that such a course of action would be very controversial.

      Maybe that’s the point where they should have realized they drove the series off the cliff. I know getting local talent is limited, but if you can’t get a showrunner for Doctor Fucking Who, it’s a lost cause.

        Showrunner is not a common position in British TV, where usually all episodes are written by the same person. There are a limited number of people experienced enough to consider, and they tend to have their own things to do, that don’t come with the toxic fans and media attention.
