Riding an e-scooter is only permitted if you’re returning from a ferry trip to Estonia

The law change will introduce a minimum age limit for using the devices at 15 years old, as well as placing a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limit of 0.5 g/l on scooter drivers.

They also pointed out that other countries in Europe set the age between 12 and 16.

I have mixed feelings about this. When I was that age, I had a bike and used it as my main mode of transportation. Is a scooter significantly more dangerous? I suppose it must be, if kids are getting injured at the rates they are.

And kids can still operate non-motorized bikes, scooters, etc.

Nah, they ain’t. What they are though is easier to get carefree with. You have to expend yourself on the bike and you both feel and know the speed and it’s possible consequences. We’ve all fallen from bike, eh?

But electric scooter? Pretty much self-stabilizing, and self-accelerating machine. No consequence tied to it mentally.

Pretty sure in the EU they’re required to be firmware locked to 25 km/h max per law.

How often that is upheld is debatable unfortunately.

Have you tried piloting a rocket powered space craft? I’m pretty sure those vehicles are not within the scope of the current laws.

Alternatively, you could construct your own unique vehicle that doesn’t fit neatly into any category. How about a flying boat with retractable wheels and wings? Just make sure you design in in such a way, that it lacks key characteristics written in laws regarding cars.

I don’t know about Finland but here in Germany, motorised vehicles must have a Straßenzulassung (road approval) in order to be legally operated in public traffic. So, rather than generally allowing any motorised vehicle that is not within the scope of current laws, any motorised vehicle that is not within the scope of current laws is not allowed on german public roads.
And I’d be kinda surprised if it was much different in other countries, except for maybe the US (I’d still be surprised, just not as much).
