I think the ex-fascists subgroup you mentioned, addressed in this question, is actually representative of intrinsic critical thinkers whose nature overcame their upbringing. These I think are quite natural lemmings (a particularly ironic name).
intrinsic critical thinkers whose nature overcame their upbringing
I’m going to push back on this because I don’t think it’s true and also because I think it’s harmful.
There are not people who are naturally inclined not to think critically. Just as much as upbringing can shape someone’s worldview, environment can shape willingness and capacity for introspection. People don’t think critically when they’re naturally predisposed to do that, they think critically when they’re either adequately distanced from the disincentives for reflection they’ve known forever or when the incentives for reflection create enough desperation to overwhelm.
I say harmful because is there anyone who sincerely doesn’t picture themselves as an intrinsic critical thinker? Everyone is already there, so the “intrinsic critical thinker” worldview means assuming some people you meet will be worse at it. “I’m naturally better at critical thinking than this person” is a mindset that provides a shortcut to dismissing this person’s viewpoints without actually evaluating them.
The country that was genocided by a military partially made up of actual former Nazis? And then rebuilt themselves under embargo into a society where housing is a human right? Not sure you’re super familiar with fascism.
Fascism is characterized by support for a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived interest of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.
Fascism is defined by the destruction of capital in non-military sectors, the dominance of some sectors of capital over others (beyond as laid out in imperialism to the point of contravening the typical form of the dictatorship of capital)and imperialist policies like forced labor being directed inward to compensate for a decline of empire.
Given that DPRK has industrialized throughout its history, has taken steps to shrink its military expenditures in comparison to the rest of the economy, has no dictatorship of capital within the country, doesn’t use slave labor and is a historically imperialized nation as opposed to a former imperial power, I do not see how you can define the DPRK as fascist.
In the west, they teach that communism = authoritarianism and totalitarianism. They teach that no one would willingly let an elected government plan anything, and therefore we should submit to the will of random ass rich people.
OK so the current communist leaders aren’t random ass rich people? I’m pretty sure if you ranked the North Koreans by wealth, their current leader would miraculously be #1.
Funny comment, because nobody knows how much Kim Jong-Un is worth. It’s estimated that he has more than 5 billion USD, whereas the next richest person seems to be Cha Chol Ma with more than 100 million USD in net worth.
I couldn’t find a list of the richest people in North Korea, but I’d be happy to be proven wrong.
“Nobody actually knows this if this thing that my entire argument hinges on is true, so i have no choice but to believe the most trustworthy source: the same people who levelled Korea with bombs in the first place, and who said Hamas beheaded 40 babies. Change my mind.”
So please give me a list of the richest people in North Korea if you believe the Supreme Leader isn’t on #1. Otherwise your comment is just as speculative as mine.
You’re the one making the claim. You have to prove it. The burden of proof is not on people being skeptical of your unsourced seemingly unfounded nonsense.
I’d be inclined to agree with you. However, the initial implication is that communist leaders are different from random-ass rich people. That means the burden of proof lies on the person saying that.
I said “I’m pretty sure”, clearly denoting that this is an educated guess. I didn’t say “I know” or “it is fact”. This is because I know that finding exact numbers will be very hard, given that I don’t speak Korean and don’t think that this information is public in any case.
I’d actually be happy to be proven wrong! If you find any good sources, let me know.
I feel like the Venn diagram of Lemmy users and (current or ex-) fascists has very little overlap.
Happy to be proved wrong though.
I feel like I’ve met more leftists who grew up in reactionary households than not

I’m not happy for you to be proved wrong! Deplatforming fascists is always welcome.
Seconded, but they did say ex-fascists
Agreed, but you mentioned current ones, and I was replying to you.

I saw a post a couple days ago defending north Korea… so there is definitely some overlap. .

You can’t just call everything you deem bad fascist, you’re taking away all the meaning from that word

Explain how that doesn’t describe North Korea.

Because you omitted the most important characteristic of fascism. The melding of State and Capital to further the interests of Capital
Fascism is just one of the many forms of authoritarianism
They’ll probably tell you the Supreme Leader was elected or something.
Totally different species of dickhead, they are not fascists

Behold, the pinnacle of liberal logic
