      Bodybuilder friend used to say “abs are made in the kitchen” - and the dude was ripped.

      I helped him manage his diet - pretty incredible what he had to do to get looking like he did.

      I really hate how much people put emphasis on this, because it discourages exercise. Exercise is good for your health whether you lose weight or not. Just do it.

      Thinking what you eat is also important, but for most people the lack of exercise is a lot bigger issue, and even worse if you have overweight

        This. If exercise burns 100 calories per day, that is still a major help to losing weight. If someone is eating near their CICO threshold and finds it hard to cut more, that 100 calories down a day from exercise is 700 calories a week and 36,500 calories yearly. That translates to roughly 10lbs or 4.5kg lost.

        It’s not “lose half your body fat in half a year” sensational, but it tips the scales slightly further to accelerate weight loss.
