I don’t understand this post and the “context” doesn’t explain why. I feel like some critical information on the original post was scribbled out.

David Cleary was a British soldier that murdered several unarmed Irish civilians in 1972, a massacre known as “Bloody Sunday.” To succinctly summarize this period of the Troubles, I offer the Wolfe Tones. We are referring to one of the murderers of the “fourteen men in Derry, [who] are the last that you will bury” here.

Last year, he was finally made to stand trial. However, the judge decided that he deserved full anonymity (because of supposed danger to his life) and issued an injunction preventing him from being named as anything other than “soldier F.” He also got off scot free of course.

Twitter here ended up banning this user for naming the man. Elsewhere, I’ve also seen screenshots where Google in the uk removes results with his name.

Excuse me, I’m unfamiliar with David “I Love Mass Murder” Cleary, aka Soldier F. Would you mind tell me a little bit about this mass murderer, David Cleary?

America may have many, many, many, many, MANY faults, but giving a fuck what the British government has to say hasn’t typically been one of them.

So how much trouble could I get in if posting it in the UK and it gets linked to me? Probably time to make some more anonymised accounts tbh.

wait, so what if we are quoting Colum Eastwood MP? aren’t the records and minutes of parliament a matter of public concern?

Yes, there’s an injunction in the UK against naming him, because of supposed danger to his life. The government also spent about 4 million pounds defending him in court. He was cleared of all charges of course - I’m guessing that if they punished all of the British soldiers who murdered Irish folks in cold blood, that might clog up the courts.

My apologies, I didn’t mean to make it sound like I didn’t believe the UK government was protecting their fascist mass murderers. I hope they get haunted by the faces of those they murdered for the rest of their lives.

There are also a bunch of literal IRA and UVF terrorists who are free. They were released after the Good Friday Agreement.

Sure, soldiers should not be stooping to their level, but to act as if it is unfair just isn’t painting the whole picture. The general attitude towards the troubles has been “forgive and forget” and it has largely worked.

So fucking what? Military executing unarmed civilians is not comparable at all, where you dropped on your head as a baby?
