I promise Anthony Albanese that I will vote for whoever Senators and representatives will oppose these centres being built here.

I urge our current Senate to block the installation of these data centres.

“maintain community confidence in the rapidly advancing technology.”

Absolutely nothing any government could say would bring me confidence in the water-, noise-, heat-, and light-polluting environmental catastrophe that is data centres.

They produce fuck all jobs, are major targets in war and I’m sure will be targets for extremists too.

Entirely gutless move by Labor. There’s hundreds of other sectors that could be invested in that produce tangible benefits both technologically and socially, unlike this planet-ending technology.

Cool, if there are two resources this country has way too much of its power and water.

Just the other day I was complaining to my wife that our powerbill is way too low, I was really hoping the government would come up with a strategy to raise it…

And water, well we are having a good year with record levels in local catchments, that means this will be the way of things forever… Right… Right?

We couldn’t possibly end up facing down water restrictions while slop factories got to keep using because of the economic necessity… Right? Right?

Late stage capitalism just continues to be the gift that craps down the collective throats of all the people.

Albo, if you care about the environment and the local communities you have to stop AI companies from building these huge data centres that will fuck everything for anyone in Australia.

Amanda McKenzie is absolutely right. Also, we’ll see just how effective these ‘ministers’ are at managing the risks of AI as these projects move forward. I’m pretty sure they are doing enough in the present…

I’m not so confident. The only ones I have faith in here are the independent senators like Pocock and the Greens as usual
