      I’m afraid you have an essentialist understanding of history. You believe that there is something deep inside Germanness or Frenchness or whatever country, and that this gives countries or citizens fixed qualities. A typical example is the hypothesis of the German sonderweg, which has been disproven by academic historical research. Or your idea here about a German drive for power.

      You’re probably German, so maybe you also need to look into your own family’s history to see that you are not like your potential Nazi ancestor. It’s really not useful to transpose your family history onto a contemporary, highly diverse country.

          Jokes aside, it might really be good for you to look into your own family history to make sure you aren’t mixing past and present.
