I saw a big bunch of posts around here discussing the use of VPNs or i2p to torrent. As I seldom download something, I wasn’t too much worried about using my IP. Now I’m using an arr stack and that kicked me in the way to protect my connection a little better. So, what are you all using nowadays for your torrenting?
I use qbittorrentvpn docker container by binhex I have pia VPN, but I’m sure theres better options now a days I got a really good deal on it so its paid for another 3 years or so
I’ve been using windscribe for the past few years. Haven’t seen any bad news about them yet, work good on android and PC, and I at least have been getting mine for just $30 a year. Totally recommend them .

AirVPN as they have port forwarding and privacy prioritized
Second for airVPN, their prices are good and were super easy to set up for torrent ports
Third for AirVPN, plus it works with gluetun
AirVPN or Proton because they offer port forwarding. I use Air
Air is excellent
if you’re intending to seed with a decent upload bandwidth, you’ll likely need a vpn with port-forwarding capability. there are fewer and fewer providers these days with that offered as a service, so make sure before you sign up.
Gluetun sidecar for the qbit container setup with paid Proton VPN and port forwarding
Yeap, I was thinking about proton, but never heard about gluetun. Gonna search about it, thanks!
Gluetun isn’t a VPN itself it just uses your VPN
This is the way, although I use a different VPN.
I use a deluge image that’s got vpn support built in. Pick whatever you want, but make sure it’s configured to stop all torrent traffic if the vpn isn’t connected. You don’t want it to fallback to continue working but revealing your home IP.
neat!
Renting a seedbox, syncung back to home with resilio
Icevpn has been good. Gibraltar based.

You don’t get a VPN. You get a seed box. The seed box will likely have VPN capabilities if you want…
Wow, never heard of it. Thanks
Seed boxes are typically virtual private servers. Very much like a VPN (it’s a proxy.) but they’re on major backbones. You get incredible bandwidth. Most will let you put up web services. You get storage…
Many are just 5-10 bucks a month.
Definitely suggested over vanilla vpns.
thanks for the tip, I’ll look around for it. The improve of speed is great, although not my main focus. My major concern is keep myself anonymous and not receive some legal takedown or something like that.
That’s really the golden ticket there. With a seed box there’s no chance your VPN fails (download stuff on the box directly, you’ll have a secure shell and KVM). That can be a real problem with normal vpns if not configured properly (you need to force traffic through the VPN and reject on failure, while most default to a fail back and will expose your IP.)
quick search reveals:

10gb free per month or $1.10 per monthI’m a bit lazy tbh. I just use NextDNS (which likely does fuck-all). But, I’ve yet to receive any notice, and that’s all I’ve used for a long time.
It doesn’t shield your IP but it’s sick for ad blocking in and out of the house.
Oh yeah it’s great for ads. I love never seeing any. I get confused now when people talk about them lol
That won’t hide your IP at all.
it does do a good job of filtering out ads and trackers, though
but yeah, might wanna get something that protects your IP too
