A 2-year-old girl whose parents sued a Texas hospital to prevent it from testing if she was brain-dead after she drowned on Memorial Day has been removed from life support and died.

HOUSTON (AP) — A 2-year-old girl whose parents sued a Texas hospital to prevent it from testing if she was brain-dead after she drowned in a hotel pool on Memorial Day has been removed from life support and died, her family said this week.

Annelise Camp “is now with Jesus,” her parents Johnston and Joy Camp said in a statement, weeks after a judge granted a temporary injunction in their favor. “While our hearts are broken, we trust in His perfect love, His faithfulness, and His promises.”

The family had long said she still showed signs of life and wanted more time for her to recover and explore treatment.

Breathing tubes were removed from Annelise on Monday, her grandfather Steve Camp posted online. “When this procedure was done, she passed very quickly.”

A church service for Annelise is scheduled for next Wednesday in Houston.

The Texas Right to Life organization supported the family’s case.

    I don’t understand the depths of stupidity nor the selfishness required to keep a brain-dead toddler hooked up to medical devices for two years when every day you can clearly see that simply because a body is animated, that doesn’t mean the person is still alive. And that they were finally allowed to expire doesn’t mean they weren’t already long dead.

    It reminds me of when Terri Schiavo’s poor husband was finally able to get her feeding tube pulled and then her autopsy revealed she’d lost something like 30% of her brain’s mass and would have never recovered. And this only occurred after he was demonized nationally for wanting to do the compassionate thing and finally let the poor woman pass.

    Then again.

    It’s Texas.

      Just a correction there, she was on life support for a little over 2 months, not 2 years. The girl was 2 years old, but the reported accident occurred on the last day of May this year.

      The family’s response is still really cult-like behavior though.

      I sorta get it from the parents. Sure, they’re jeebus but cases, but how can you possibly make that decision to let go of your child, even if she is dead. My heart goes out to them, but this was the right decision

    If the child was brain-dead while in utero I’m thinking they’d take a different stance.
