I have a crippling phobia of speaking on the phone, my husband handles all of the paperwork as a result. If he died today I wouldn’t know where to begin. This could have been this case with this lady, maybe she simply didn’t know until it was too late. I feel like bullying pensioners is not the best way to make immigration arguments though.

if you don’t mind me asking, can you tell me more about your phobia? Asking out of sheer curiosity, nothing more.

It comes from autistic fear of being perceived. I don’t want attention on me in any way and the phone is a great example. I was one of those really shy kids. Also anxiety makes my mind blank, so whatever poor soul I’ve tried to call is just sitting there waiting for me to say anything at all, instead I’m crying in fear. It’s fucking ridiculous and I hate it.

It’s not ridiculous. Anxiety is a very powerful emotion and takes the wind out of you. And it’s not your fault.

Thank you for being open about it.
