should always carry the CE marking on the packaging showing they have passed relevant safety and standards checks

Like the markings on masks? Everybody can print a CE marking and there is no way for the consumer to verify if it is valid.

The government said the online vendors had agreed to remove the affected listings and to send in the recalled products.

No punishment? No naming and shaming so that consumers can avoid that careless vendor?

Sometimes it’s an unpleasant balancing act. If you punish too excessively, then it causes more harm. Companies that would have cooperated, or even come forward voluntarily, will, instead, bury the info. This can slow/stop the recall process and lead to more harm.

We don’t know enough details about what happened in the background to judge too harshly. They might have bent over backwards, behind the scenes to help fix the damage (or the regulators were lazy).
