Sweden's foreign residents followed an election that could have a huge impact on their life in this country. The Local's journalists reported live – catch up on the news from Election Night in our blog.
When the elections were closing in, Åkesson (leader of SD, the far right nationalists) finally went all in with the xenophobia that was previously implied but not said out loud. I think it was this move that cost him a lot of votes from all shades of Swedes that realized what they were going to vote for. About fucking time.
One of my favourite things in the world is seeing a two-faced person failing to use their fake face. Mainly because it can sometimes be really hard to see which is the fake one. And before anyone says ‘well it is really easy for me’, if that were true for everyone, we would have much nicer world. I’m glad because it becomes finally clear to everyone. It’s nice when this happens with a colleague, but even nicer when it happens to a politician. And even nicer when that is a politician leading a national party. If i were Swedish that might have made that the best day of the year for me. Happy for all of you. Hope whatever the votes turn out to be, the overall result of the election is a good one.
The election results will be shite regardless who will form a new weak government but there might be some good things to come out of it, like hopefully the end of support for far right populism for some time ahead.
Genuinely happy that they’re not doing their best election ever, which I honestly expected. Russia backed woman hating xenophobic traitors as they are.
The only good thing to be said about this result is that the far-right party actually lost voters, and did not manage to become second largest party.
