I’ve started blasting death metal as load as possible when this happens. If my ears are going to be assaulted I’ll just double down with the noise i want to hear. Luckily the pump i go to has never done this so i try and go there everytime.
Some/most gas stations that auditorily assault us like this also have the option to mute the sound. Usually a vertical row of buttons on the right side of the screen, push each button sequentially from top to bottom and the sound might mute.

I have yet to encounter a gas station pump that displays ads that hasn’t been wholly vandalized to the point of non-functionality. I think I’d have to find a gas station being built the day they install the pumps to actually see them working. And then I would break them myself.
There are a couple of American Express cards that give you 3% cash back on Gas (including one with a low annual fee, that also gives 6% back on groceries up to the first $6000 spent per year).
That helps.
There’s a gas station chain near me that doesn’t play ads, usually has the best prices, and gives 10c off per gallon if you use their app linked to a checking account…that helps, too.
I miss the days when that was the better deal…

We are paying three dollars more per gallon here in Germany because of the stupid war your country started in Iran, while you are largely unaffected yourself because of your own oil production

Our prices were substantially lower before Iran because of our local oil production but it’s very clear to most Americans that our fossil fuel consumption is largely supplemented but foreign oil. And we are seeing the result at the pump. Sorry you’re paying even more but you were paying more than us before too.

Some local hero around here has been stabbing ball point pens into the speakers on them.
Theyre smart to that already, most of the ad pumps I’ve run into have speakers hidden inside the housing that you can’t access anymore, and the “bottom left button on the screen mutes the ad” trick is disabled.
At this stage I just boycott those stations, leave a 2 star review on Google and deal with paying an extra 15c a gallon a couple blocks away.

All gas stations are not multi billion dollar companies lol, the last two local ones i saw change hands went for under $1M and they have local owners, only one had ads, and it was part of the new owners upgrades… so like that was a member of my community who replaced gas tanks to sell ads. It’s clearly worth some money, and was not forced upon them.
