Well he’s right. As an American I don’t worry about a civil war or citizen revolt here. Present-day Americans can yell at their televisions and post badass tirades online, but they couldn’t revolt their way out of a Walmart. It’s far too inconvenient. Even after the Jan 6 idiots forced their way into the Capitol building, what did they do - committed minor vandalism and took selfies.

      Same here.

Plus I think it’s important to point out for folks outside the US that even though this place looks like a spiraling shit hole from the outside (and rightly so) that for tons of people living here life is completely normal and pleasant. Living in such a fortunate/privileged position you have to put effort into paying attention and giving a shit in order to see that the emperor has no clothes.

The American Way is for most of us to have things pretty good at the price of a horrifyingly large minority of us suffering for it. Plus of course all the people in other countries that our government has fucked with or killed.

This place always has had the reputation of being the richest country in the world, yet unable or unwilling to guarantee healthcare or a thousand other things. Our outward appearance may be dumpster fire, but our bank account still has a lot of zeros. People are too comfortable to force change.

Now, if the midterm elections are a horror show that gets people killed and it kicks off the AI stock market meltdown, it could probably change quickly. I just don’t expect it to change quickly.
