Outside of the US this wouldn’t even be a question.

You don’t need literally every single thing to be a road. Why do Americans have such an issue with destinations? Every time somebody makes something cool there’s always someone complaining that it could be an 18 lane highway instead. If you turn everything into roads there won’t be anywhere to go anymore.

The road is falling in the ocean at the southern end.

Anticipated chaos in the Sunset neighborhood has not materialized.

The city has already invested a few millions and installed park infrastructure, art, playgrounds and other cool park stuff. They actually did an amazing job.

The road is still open to bikes and it’s actually one of the most pleasant rides in San Francisco.

SF has already voted on this twice. If you are feeling like the city is forcing something down your neighborhood throat then write a ballot initiative to secede à la Piedmont, we’ll see where it falls.

If your neighborhood is nice and iconic you should be happy to share it with your neighbors not close it off just to pave it over and save 1min on your drive to the bucks.

Fuck this prop, fuck your car, fuck your entitlement.

That beach is completely inaccessible by public transit from the East Bay.

Closing it to cars is a NIMBY move by neighbors who don’t want to share the beach with out of towners.

Respectfully, this is a bad take. If you are travelling to SF by public transport it’s certainly no worse access than before. I grew up making trips to Ocean Beach with my family a few times a year via BART and MUNI from Fremont and have continued doing so since moving back recently. The only difference is that BART runs fewer trains than they used to, but the rest of the journey is the same as ever.

Also, it’s pretty easy (and free) to park in one of the many adjacent parking lots if you are already driving into the city. Crossing downtown is the real obstacle, and if you are able to take the san mateo bridge you can enter from the south and avoid it entirely.

100% agree. The solution is to add public transportation. Public transportation makes it more accessible than opening it for car access

Add public transit? BART is going broke because no one wants to ride the public transit they already have. They’ll be shutting down stations unless their new sales tax passes.

I’m going to assume that you make ridiculous comparisons for sport. You do realize there are parking spaces literally 15 ft from this park, just not on that road, which never had parking. Your point is so moot you should be ashamed of yourself

The road goes north to south how does leaving it open make it any more accessible to the people in the east bay?

You can still drive to ocean beach, even with sunset dunes as a park. Actually it means that the beach is now one street closer to the east bay, so we technically made it a tiny bit more accessible LOL.
