I have a big no soliciting sign on my door, when sales people knock anyway I make it a point to waste as much of their time as I can and not buy anything.

    Actually very recently…

I had been searching for a job, for a month and just wanted work. Accepted a job that’s kind of below my degree and what I can. Salary was pretty low and didn’t feel well with the interview.

But I just wanted have a job, you know? However, I did not sign anything yet.

A day later, I get called by a recruiter and mentioned he had a job offer. One I had been really trying to get. I took that opportunity, stalled the other job by not answering the email for the documents to sign.

A week later and surprisingly got accepted by the other job! This job has better pay, better work, better opportunities and long term is just so much better for my CV, knowledge and self development.

So I called the recruiter of the previous job, the one I did not want. Explained in most polite way that I will still refuse it because I found something else which fits my long term plans better. Of course he was polite but not happy at all. I also emailed the company and the person mailed me back decently but notable disappointed.

      It’s ok, recruiters don’t have a soul.

You could have murdered his cat and he’d still call you back in a week if he thought he could get you a job make a buck off you.

yeah I mean a job lets you go because of financial reasons and there is no contract guaranteeing they will keep you employed for any time period. would be fine if it was a week into it.

I dont think you have to feel Bad about this at all. Companies do this to you the other way round if the want a specific candidate and that one doesn’t accept then they offer it to the next person often taking quite some time.

That is less a dick move and more how job search is now.

I did this a few years ago. I knew as soon as I walked out of the interview I didn’t want the job, it was literally just stripping cables building harnesses all day in a room in the back by myself. They also started at like 4 AM “to beat the traffic” and it was in a part of town that would be miserable to drive in the snow to. Lots of turns and bendy roads through the woods.

But for whatever reason they still offered me a higher pay rate than my job at the time which included control panel assembly, wiring, fabrication, testing, design work. I still acted interested and had them put the offer in writing and egged the dude on for like 3+ weeks as if I was interested.

Reason I did this was I knew I was quitting my job, and there was a different one I had interviewed at that paid better than both, has way more responsibilities and career opportunities, is way more interesting custom work where every day is something completely different. Also my old job knew I was quitting so it felt better to have something in my back pocket if they just told me to get fucked. But after my first interview the manager wanted me to come back for a second round to meet his boss and carve out my role in more depth.

Well they were both in the field so scheduling another interview took another few weeks. I felt a little bad for the wiring harness guy especially when I finally called him and told him I accepted my current job, he was like yeah I was holding off on making offers because I thought we were gonna hire you. He was a super nice guy

Oh well, life goes on, I’m sure they found someone. Companies do this kind of crap to people every day.
