I have a big no soliciting sign on my door, when sales people knock anyway I make it a point to waste as much of their time as I can and not buy anything.

I got visited by Jehovas Witnesses. I had just learned enough about their playbook and how to deal with it (I wrote a paper about this topic just a few days before that). When they left (fled), the woman witness was crying.

Loaned my spare tire to a guy once who was “going straight to the tire shop”. About a week later I hadn’t heard anything and he wouldn’t answer my calls. Saw his car at Walmart one night so I grabbed a busted cinder block out of my trunk, stole my wheel and tire back and left the car on the block.

Next morning he calls me mad that I stole my own tire back. I told him I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about but he owes me for my wheel and tire.

Never heard from him again after that.

Lady in front of me at the checkout line took forever, had very precise ideas of how things should be bagged, waited until the end of the transaction to pull up the store’s app, was upset she couldn’t use X, Y, or Z discount, in general made it all take much longer than it should. I kid you not it took her 20 minutes to check out. (I would have moved lines, except I’d already unloaded my cart and it kept looking like she was almost done.)

She ended with a schpiel about how sometimes it’s good to take a break, slow down, we don’t have anything to rush for.

At this point, I pulled out my phone and showed the clerk “here’s my pup waiting for me at home”. She seemed appreciative of a distraction/someone recognizing the absurdity of the first person, so I told her about my pup and was pointedly cheerful about seeing him soon.

Have a friend, and we have a complicated relationship. Making friends as an adult is hard, but then life shit happens and even the friends you do end up making can be assholes.

I had just gotten out of a divorce, and wanted to throw a big halloween costume party. Told everyone months beforehand, with plenty of reminders and groupchats, spent over $1000 on decorations, couple hundred on snacks, alcohol, weed I’d have stocked. It was going to be a rager. Well, a bunch of people cancel, because my house is like a 40 min drive, but my best friend at the time, he was, for some reason, not giving me a definite answer. Like, I figure even if nobody else shows up, my buddy and I could still hang. But come the day of the party, he tells me he’s not coming, and it’s just so he can maybe find something better to do closer. And I’m just… So upset. Cancel the whole party via an on-line thing, and just sit there feeling fucking awful.

Shit messed me up so bad, it’s like 5 years later, and some of the decorations I put up for that party are still up. I obviously haven’t even tried to host anything since.

anyway. like, a couple months after that fiasco, my buddies brand new girlfriend texts me, asking me to come to his birthday party. She was putting a bunch of work into it, making it a scavenger hunt thing for him and his friends. I told her immediately, “nope!” Not coming. She asked once or twice more and got the same answer.

But in the end, I was still nicer, because at least I gave a clear answer right away.

For your example, I think you’ve got things wrong. Probably a lot of those people are just being paid to work, not per sale. You’re wasting the company’s time, but probably not the employee’s. You’re also wasting your own time.

I don’t like making people upset or feel bad. That does really upset me so I avoid it as much as possible. But, I do have my limits

First - I had an acquaintance that used me and my number for marketing calls. After a few of these calls I was thoroughly annoyed and the next time I got a call, and the lady read out to me my list of potential prizes that included a bbq grilling set and some weekend vacation that included all sorts of activities. I put on my best acting and sounded devastated and told her, “these prizes are so unfair to me! I can’t use any of them! I was born without arms and legs!” I also end up tearing up a little. The lady sounded so apologetic and mortified but I didn’t get any more calls after that

Second - pre-covid my apartment complex used to be visited by the Mormons every Sunday. I’d engage on various levels depending on how I was feeling. I had just finished packing my bong when they knocked so I answered holding it and was like “hey, I’m about to hit this and get high. What do you want?” and they looked very upset and just wished me a good day and left. Later I was hanging out with my neighbors and it turns out they were so mad because they knocked on her door earlier and she answered it holding something alcoholic and was told them she was trying to get drunk

(Third - doesn’t count - wasting scammers time. If I accidentally answer a scam call I’ll waste what time I can. Got a call while I was at my job from windows support calling because they detected some errors on my pc. Took my sweet time with that one, he eventually hung up on me)

I once had a couple of real shitbag room mates. A couple, one of whom was very domineering and manipulative, but also very stupid (stupid enough that he believed, as far as I could tell, that he was a mastermind). Long story short, I ended up breaking lease to get the hell out of the apartment. Now, the first thing is, I had a shitty landlord. They did NOT want me to break the lease. The second thing is, well, I said this was a couple, but the domineering room mate claimed to the landlord that it was just him that would be left, and that he couldn’t possibly afford the rent all alone. So the landlord insisted I pay a prorated, reduced rate until he finds at least one more room mate. His boyfriend was already living there off lease, which I had allowed, and in the meeting with the landlord, I did not contradict my room mate.

As I’m moving out, he shows off that he’s moving in two more people. They’re all incredibly rude – I have some physical disabilities, and the only person to help me was my mother who also has disabilities due to polio, so it was pretty insulting that there were four able bodied people sitting around a table watching two disabled people try to carry out boxes. No one offered to help, even though that would have gotten the process over with much faster.

I confer with room mate about the new people. He confirms that they’re going to be living in the apartment, and no, he hasn’t told the landlord. Yes, he remembers the agreement about room mates. Why would he just tell me this? Well, again, not getting into it to keep this from getting too long, but remember that he thinks he’s a master manipulator. There was a lot going on as well with him trying to antagonize me behind the scenes, somehow not realizing I’m just screen grabbing everything. He thinks he’s got me cornered or something. Anyway, I finally finish moving out of that apartment into my new one, and I immediately tell the landlord about my conversation regarding his room mates, including that his boyfriend has been there most of this time as well. I am released from the agreement, and owe the landlord nothing. I learned a few months later they’d lost the apartment entirely and were living out of the boyfriend’s truck. Not surprised…

(to be honest, it was a ‘dick move’ only to the room mate lol so I’m not sure it entirely counts. I suppose the ‘honest’ thing would have been to mention the boyfriend earlier, but I would have gotten in trouble at that point for allowing a person in the apartment off the lease. However, once room mate showed themselves to be extremely dishonest, let alone all the screen shotted threats, there was no question that he would be in much more serious trouble than I, so.)

Pro-tip to anyone who wants to do this sort of shenanigans, you can remove the valve from the valve body quite easily. Just need a tool that costs a dollar. You take off the plastic cover, put the tool inside the valve body and start unscrewing. Doing this will of course prevent air from staying in the tire.

Even more of a pro-tip, do this on two tires so the person cant just put the spare tire on.

Obviously do this only on cars that are owned by arseholes, cunts or the actual ICE.

Only do this with no electronic devices on your person, or with them packed away in a faraday bag. Everywhere you go with a bluetooth or wifi antenna is being logged by a dozen data brokers, and the gov has access to all of it.

You might get away with it once, but your radio fingerprint in range 2+ times of an incident is a pattern that’s easy to spot.

This goes for ALL resistance activity, including simple protesting. The nazis are building lists, and they can use those lists to destroy your life in many more ways than assault and imprisonment (e.g. covertly limit your employment opportunities, housing options, or credit/loans).

If they’re good at collecting and analyzing the data, you stopping there for long enough to do this might be enough. Also, assume there are cameras, on the vehicle and the area nearby.

Security is not binary. Obviously you should be wearing something that covers your face, but you can’t ultimately protect yourself from drones.

The goal is to be smarter than average and defend yourself from the things in your control. The fact they’re so heavily dependent on surveillance capitalism means they’re less likely to use alt methods.

Didn’t remove the valve. Just loosen it. The tire will still lose air, but it will be harder to know why.

First year introduction to Humanities course. We are assigned groups with a final project very early on in the semester. Pretty much no one shows up to work on the project except the last week or so. At least they do show up and finish the project.

One person does not respond the entire semester then shows up the last day expecting some degree of credit. They did literally nothing. They claim someone died in their family and they have been broken up all semester… I tell them that they could have told us five months ago. They should speak to the Professor if that is legitimate not make us hide their lack of participation for them.

A lady came into a store I was working at, acting like an asshole, because they thought it would get them a better deal, tried to angrily tell me I needed to sell her a $1000+ dollar outdoor furniture set for much less than the display price, this was the last one in the store, the display set itself, and it was already clearance price. it was marked at less than $200 dollars. this was the culmination of all the things I hate most in shitty customers. So I told her I was so sorry it was priced too high and I’d get her a better price if she waited there. then I went and did something else for an hour, came back and told her it was already sold early that day and sorry for the mix up. still feel fine about this.

    Actually very recently…

I had been searching for a job, for a month and just wanted work. Accepted a job that’s kind of below my degree and what I can. Salary was pretty low and didn’t feel well with the interview.

But I just wanted have a job, you know? However, I did not sign anything yet.

A day later, I get called by a recruiter and mentioned he had a job offer. One I had been really trying to get. I took that opportunity, stalled the other job by not answering the email for the documents to sign.

A week later and surprisingly got accepted by the other job! This job has better pay, better work, better opportunities and long term is just so much better for my CV, knowledge and self development.

So I called the recruiter of the previous job, the one I did not want. Explained in most polite way that I will still refuse it because I found something else which fits my long term plans better. Of course he was polite but not happy at all. I also emailed the company and the person mailed me back decently but notable disappointed.

yeah I mean a job lets you go because of financial reasons and there is no contract guaranteeing they will keep you employed for any time period. would be fine if it was a week into it.

I dont think you have to feel Bad about this at all. Companies do this to you the other way round if the want a specific candidate and that one doesn’t accept then they offer it to the next person often taking quite some time.

That is less a dick move and more how job search is now.

I did this a few years ago. I knew as soon as I walked out of the interview I didn’t want the job, it was literally just stripping cables building harnesses all day in a room in the back by myself. They also started at like 4 AM “to beat the traffic” and it was in a part of town that would be miserable to drive in the snow to. Lots of turns and bendy roads through the woods.

But for whatever reason they still offered me a higher pay rate than my job at the time which included control panel assembly, wiring, fabrication, testing, design work. I still acted interested and had them put the offer in writing and egged the dude on for like 3+ weeks as if I was interested.

Reason I did this was I knew I was quitting my job, and there was a different one I had interviewed at that paid better than both, has way more responsibilities and career opportunities, is way more interesting custom work where every day is something completely different. Also my old job knew I was quitting so it felt better to have something in my back pocket if they just told me to get fucked. But after my first interview the manager wanted me to come back for a second round to meet his boss and carve out my role in more depth.

Well they were both in the field so scheduling another interview took another few weeks. I felt a little bad for the wiring harness guy especially when I finally called him and told him I accepted my current job, he was like yeah I was holding off on making offers because I thought we were gonna hire you. He was a super nice guy

Oh well, life goes on, I’m sure they found someone. Companies do this kind of crap to people every day.

Telling a friend’s girlfriend that he was doing much more serious drugs than she was comfortable with.

This did kill their already strained relationship (They were broken up after he had drained their joint bank account with pay-per-minute online porn) but somehow my friendship with both survived for a few years after.

They never got back together and his life went to shit, including some jail time for embezzlement.

She, as far as I know, bedded the next guy to hit on her and had a kid. I hope it worked out as she deserved better.

My other friends had always hated her, and loved that I had driven a wedge between them… until they found out that I essentially outed them for giving/selling him the drugs.

Following that, all my friends knew where I stood, and those who distanced themselves from me… I knew why. One of them, more than a decade later, is in prison for murder after selling fentanyl-laced drugs and causing a fatal overdose.

Several I am still close with. They know me, respect me, and understand that I will do the right thing, even if I am not the wronged party.

I got woken up by a caller in the middle of my afternoon nap, a big no-no where I come from. Since I was underage, they asked if my dad was home.

I told them, all concerned, that we hadn’t heard from my dad in months, and we were also looking for him. Asked the caller to please call us back if they managed to find him, as we were very worried.

(My dad was having his nap elsewhere in the house)

That was the first and only time that a spam caller hanged up on me! Great times.
