I dread the elections in France in 2027. France is one of the last bastions of Freedom that is capable of standing up to the authoritarian states if push comes to shove. The last few presidential elections have moved France closer and closer to having a Kremlin sock puppet in charge. While they have managed to pull back from the brink a few times, it only needs to go wrong once.

    To answer your question:

    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c9qwez9zz7jo

The Insurrection Act of 1807 allows the president to use active-duty military personnel to perform law-enforcement duties inside the US.

Once invoked, troops could be tasked with a range of duties, from quelling civil unrest and enforcing court orders to arresting and detaining migrants.

Because the Insurrection Act was written in broad terms, with little specific guidance on how and when the powers can be used, it gives presidents wide latitude in deciding when to mobilise military personnel for domestic operations.

Time to bring in the army to oppress the citizenry. Hoo rah!

Not sure what the next one is, but the last one will be the “War on internal terror” aka IWOT. After that it’s over

You ignored something as bluntly unlawful as orwelian Patrioct Act becouse it was happening to “them”. The ammended one will happen to you.

Nah, they ignored their own army slaughtering innocent civilians and said “welp, that’s too bad, but not my problem”.

Now the rest of the world they destabilized get to say “well, that’s too bad”

Fascism just is imperialist repression turned inward.

Deportation of “homegrowns”. He’s not exactly subtle about it. Watch out for talk about violent criminals being too dangerous to be allowed to stay in America.

I’m going to start considering Hilary the canary in the coal mine. As long as she is in the country, free, and breathing this authoritarian regime hasn’t taken complete control yet.

For whatever reason I feel like Musk is waking up to the fact that people really reject his policies. If he is one of the masterminds that could mean that things change.

But it’s more likely that those losses in sales were accepted sacrifices.

And yet, I cannot imagine that things can significantly get worse. The media and economy is controlled, the chat messages can be intercepted. What else could an authoritarian regime want? Why remove the illusion that people are free?

I rather think that the actions taken are just there to make the rightwing voters think that something is done. But their situation cannot improve. But there is also not much more chaos that can be created beyond cripling US producation capacities.

This only leaves bold foreign policy options. My guess would be that it’s time for the Iran invasion.

If it’s actually about creating authoritarianism then the next step is militarising the population. Create a ‘work force’ and have all unemployed people do manual communal work in groups. Also create a civil leader for every block or street.

A return of the concept of “unamerican” art and activities, to support the destruction and suppression of said things.

I’d normally say book burnings first, but those have been an on-off thing in some parts of the states since the 50s.

So I’ll go with “officially endorsed” book burnings. Not officially organised, mind, but an actual expression of support shown.

If you drive a car, I’ll tariff the street

If you try to sit, I’ll tariff your seat

If you get too cold, I’ll tariff the heat

If you take a walk, I’ll tariff your feet

      Tariffman!
