“At some point, Ukraine will sign a ceasefire agreement; at some point, hopefully, a peace treaty with Russia. Then it may be that part of Ukraine’s territory is no longer Ukrainian,” Merz told students at the Carolus-Magnus-Gymnasium in Marsberg, a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, on Monday.

    Oh Germany…

I thought of saying “how low you’ve fallen”, but then again, you’re never known for standing on the right side of history.

WHY! THE! FLYING! FUCK! would he say that publicly? Doing so significantly weakens Ukraine’s (and the West’s) negotiating position. If the opponent knows that this is on the table from the get-go, they’ll start with even bigger demands. It’s terrible enough that Traitor Donnie has backstabbed Ukraine at the behest of his handlers in the Kremlin. It befuddles me, however, why even Merz now takes pages from “The Fart of the Deal”.

Because Merz and the far right in Germany are decidely on russia/Putin’s side?

What has Merz done as actions that demonstrate he actually wants Ukraine to win?

He sends a lot of aid to Ukraine and has not tried to stop or slow down that aid. As much as I dislike Merz, I sincerely doubt that he is on Putins side.

Always look at what politicians actually do and not what they say. Words are cheap.

The US also still sends quite a bit of aid to Ukraine despite Trump and his fellow criminals doing everything they can to sabotage it for Putin. No matter what Trump does, the fact remains that most people in the US are neutral to positive about Ukraine and see Trump’s blatant attempts to sabotage Ukraine as yet more proof of the fact that Trump is full of shit and Putin is his daddy.

I am not convinced Merz could get away with NOT giving Ukraine a ton of military help, I don’t think that is probably a politically tenable move in Germany if you want to form a majority coalition… so people like Merz undermine help in other ways that are less easy to pin on them negatively… like helping manufacture an architecture of military intel and personnel that makes it easy for rightwing elements of Germany to feed technology, doctrine and intelligence to russia or at least place it in places that are so easy for russia to get that it is basically a gift.

Scholz SPD was against sending Taurus. The Greens and Liberals were openly calling for more aid and were also part of the governing coalition. So the opposition leader Merz was hitting the government in a weak spot.

Did Merz not get bullied enough as a kid or something?

How did he turn into a human ingrown toenail?

Why do I feel the need to give Merz a swirly so bad?

Merz was specifically bred and educated by the german conservative upper class to represent the wants and wishes of his rich associates.

And I absolutely do mean it exactly like that. The guy joined the party as a student back in highschool and had the party’s Konrad Adenauer Stiftung pay for his university education. He has never known anything outside of his rich conservative background, flush with networking and the insider relationships of his coterie. All he ever achieved, he did through people who helped him up in the anticipation of him paying them back with taxpayer money or getting them cushy corporate jobs, like his when he was the chairman of the supervisory board of BlackRock Germany where he worked two days per week and received a six-figure salary for it.

Kind of reminds me of how people breed and raise show dogs… and not in a good, normal well adjusted way.

Indeed, he is the personified will of the US and German industrial interests.

Nothing he does is his own agenda and he is paid enough to not care.

Not even industrial interests, but the interests of the financial “industry” that does fuck all for the actual economy, because it contents itself with increasing rich people’s yacht money.

You’re asking that about a person who owns atleast one privat plane, only ever been private insured and gets over 60k a month and says stuff like “i feel with the general insured. I know the pain”, “i am upper middle class”, “we all have to cut our finances down”

I don’t know why everyone in the comments is freaking out, it’s the most likely outcome.

I mean: What has Ukraine to gain by spending young men’s lives to regain territory already lost? To ask a famous question asked by a certain band: What’s the price of a mile?
