Include a basic definition of what you consider trolling. Because people seem to deem a huge variety of things trolling. Silly comments are fine but no direct personal insults.

arguing an opposing point for no other reason than to piss people off, with no intention of reaching agreement or understanding
i troll nazis
I troll everyone on occasion. Really just depends on the context. I do think I’d need to know your definition of nazi though.
this article is a pretty good examination of the term
https://www.rosalux.de/en/news/id/53586/maga-trump-and-the-question-of-american-fascism
pretty much what we have in the states right now, and i would extend the name “nazi” to those on the bottom rung who support the nazi regime, even though they fight tooth and nail to distance themselves from being nazis-- if someone’s talking about “antifa” (anti-fascist, note) as if it’s some evil organization that’s trying to replace white people, then it’s a safe bet that person is a nazi
Alright I hear ya
You think that’s fighting them and helping us, but really all it’s doing is feeding the trolls and reinforcing their beliefs and group bonds by giving them someone to unite against.
You’re not “trolling” them, you’re feeding them.
Does it make sense now?
Will you stop encouraging nazis?
they are already united against everyone who isn’t one of them. part of their core identity (by design) is to flat out reject any ideas that don’t align with their nazi mindset. it’s the same in any other cult you’ve ever heard of. their greatest fear is to be shunned and cast out of the cult. watch that documentary “going clear” about scientology to get an idea-- it’s extremely difficult to remove someone from that cult programming
so–mockery, ridicule, shaming them–i will never stop until i’m dead
What you’re doing isn’t helping, it’s hurting
https://counterhate.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Dont-Feed-the-Trolls.pdf
“Don’t feed the trolls” started out as common sense, because everyone should be able to easily understand it.
However you are not the only one who can’t understand it on their own, and an absolute shit ton of people have put the time in trying to explain it
But if you can’t understand this, there’s I absolutely no way you’re “deprogramming” anyone.
You are actively working against what you say you want to accomplish, I’m not going to out any more time explaining this, because in 2026 if people really don’t understand “don’t feed the trolls” there is zero fucking way no one else has tried to explain this to you
You are either incapable or unwilling to understand the most basic point of internet etiquette for over 30 years
You have a wild misunderstanding of what it means to feed the trolls if you think trolling nazis falls under that definition.
people are getting rounded up, detained, murdered. we are in another pointless war. whatever checks and balances there ever were in government are gone.
i will not agree that my (or anyone’s) trolling of nazis has had any part in these outcomes, in fact, letting these people run amok without calling them out, i think, led more to it than anything else.
i understand you’re mad, but like many other “let’s try ‘talking’ to these nazis” or “let’s just ignore them” people, you’re mad about the wrong thing
The above poster at least brought a reference. Here’s another covering the backfire effect in general https://psychotricks.com/backfire-effect/
People are a tricky problem. They don’t often work the way one would think, and certainly not the way we might wish. I think it’s a fair position to take that the social media environment, and the way people with opposing views interact there, has had a non-negligible impact on the rise in extreme views. That definitely includes trolling.
But here I am offering a differing opinion with a reference in support of the backfire effect, which is some next-level irony.
don’t worry, the science one would use to counter nazi viewpoints (climate science, health science (e.g., vaccine safety), LGBTQ studies, etc) is being actively obliterated by the regime put in power by the people we’ve been trying to talk rationally to for decades. the eventual outcome is of course that there will be no trolling or disagreement, only compliance with the party’s whims
Are you completely unilaterally in support of everything on the left and believe everyone/thing on the right is equivalent to 1940s nazis? (Currently)
no. that’s a separate discussion that would be a waste of time in a fascist state
does it matter? they’re not calling their detention centers “concentration camps,” but that’s what they are. people are dying, “illegal” or not. for the crime of not being 100% white. no consequences for anyone causing these deaths (or any other crime–are you familiar with the epstein files?). because that’s how it is in a fascist state
