Most sports in Japanese are referred to with borrow words.

    フットボール - futtoboru
    サッカー - Sakka
    バスケットボール - Basukettoboru

But baseball? You think that’s besuboru? Hell nah, that’s mother fuckin yakyu (野球)

To me, that’s the greatest sign there is of how integrated into the culture the sport is.

Ew, Japan. US’ Asiatic Israel. Fuck Japan and the US, if the meme was about China, people would react with more hate, even when they know China was a victim of Japan’s genocide, the Nanjing Massacre, and the Opioid Crisis caused by the British and India not so long ago, and not because China did anything to Japan first before, Japan simply wanted to expand after the Meiji Restoration, and they saw the Chinese as inferior, just the same way Israel does with Muslims or Arabs, they wanted their resources and land, take advantage of their internal instability and so on; it was 100% sadistic greed, and here you are, always glazing Japan like they are fucking awesome and flawless

I can see the US hating Gaza in 100 years just because Gaza became more xenophobic or authoritative to protect themselves as a reaction to the incredible amount of injustice and pain they went through. To see a bunch of Western weebs pull these obvious propagandized contradictions so often is starting to look so evil and petty at the same time. Cannot enjoy memes like these anymore

It’s so weird, and so obvious how most Western people are so cool with Japan but hate China with a passion. I too used to be one of those weebs who’d love Japan more than my own country, because I thought they were elegant, responsible, smart, yada yada, but after meeting a lot of actual Japanese and learning about them, they are as crappy as any other country in the world. Xenophobic racists who cannot even make an anime as good as China’s To Be Hero X. To Be Hero X blew all the top Japanese animes I have seen in my life, like AoT, Death Note, Monster, Inuyasha, JJK is up there, but still would prefer To Be Hero X. Same with their videogames; Gachas like ZZZ are so much more fun than any Nintendo game I have played, from Pokemon to SSBU/Brawl/Melee, Kart, Party, all of them. The food? Man, Chinese is 100000% better, the way they prepare spicy and sweet chicken and blend it with rice, nuts and more, it’s so good. I was never into raw fish or using eggs for everything, so, Japanese food ALWAYS made me gag.

Regarding technology, robots, AI, having a clean city with awesome tech in it, China is already miles ahead than Japan in all of that. Japan is boring, it’s lame, and if you’re still someone who loves it more than China, you’re just a MAGA, you sound just like Trump or Lindsey Graham or pretty much every goddamn republican who talks shit about China. Period. If you even try to argue with me about this, you are automatically a brainwashed blue/red/diet MAGA who still falls for shit like the Fallout series depicting the Chinese as super evil, Marvel movies too, all the Western movies making “red” “communist” Chinese look bad, always malicious, always planning something big and in secret that will destroy all Western Civilization just because they think they are superior or whatever. If you are still that paranoid, and you felt offended by what I said about Japanese culture enough to comment or downvote, you are just a foolish MAGA no matter how much you deny it or try to justify yourself. China suffered a genocide and also the Opioid Crisis caused by the British alongside India. Of course they are strict and harsh nowadays, that’s how you beat a massive drug addiction problem. It’s crazy that Japan is also so fucking strict, probably even more than China, Japan is way more famous regarding depression at work and suicides, but all of you will still criticize China for being “authoritative” and whatnot. Posts like these just make me hate Japan and the US more.

Japan is nothing but USA’s Asiatic Israel. I love both Japan and China, but I wish you all got rid of that stupid bias most have for China only. No better way to do that than humiliate Japan with the truth. Japanese animes and the american dream are dead. The Chinese Century is here to stay now. Deal with it, fools

That’s why we’re invading Cuba: to teach them baseball! We might even share our American love of classical cars.

Kids, play nice, you can share a national sport, just like everybody else does with footie.

It is. And so is American football. You don’t believe that because you’re ignorant, but just because you don’t like or understand a sport doesn’t mean it isn’t a real sport.

There are a lot of very valid criticisms of American football. I love it, sometimes in spite of myself, but I won’t fault anyone who thinks it’s an overly-managed made-for-TV snoozefest with no rhythm whatsoever. For better or worse, though, those helmets and pads do not make it any less of a violent “manly” sport. Far from it: they are the way Americans make ourselves feel better about watching a literal bloodsport with a ball.

The way the game moves and the ruleset reward explosive impacts, and the unlimited substitutions mean players are selected and trained to optimize delivering and enduring that violence instead of, say, actually running for 80 minutes. The result is a dozen hits a game that would make a “biggest hits of the season” compilation video for rugby or Aussie rules. Also chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

That’s what happens to colonies. Look at how popular Cricket is in Commonwealth countries.

Most Commonwealth countries, Canada is different because of our close connection with the US.

There’s a group of Indians near me who play cricket every weekend so sometimes I’ll go by and bother them. “You’re playing the game wrong, you know. Have you guys never watched baseball before?” They’re always super nice and will spend ages explaining everything about the sport. They have a level of zeal for the sport which cannot be matched by even us hockey fans. Last summer we went down to the Galapagos and our group was mostly Brits and I would wait until late in the evening after they had started drinking and ask if they play soccer over there, and that is just as much fun to me.

I know the story: “association” → “assoc” → “soccer”, but they apparently didn’t get the memo, and there was much arguing.

We have Rugby and Gaelic Football as our sports from the Commonwealth. We just suck at them because there’s only 3 months a year to play it.

I’m a big guy, so someone decided that I’d be good at Rugby, and I got invited to the high school rugby practice. I had a good time even though the practice was in March and there was a foot of snow on the ground, but to this day, I have zero idea of how to actually play the game.

The worst part of snow is how hard the ground is.

Move ball from one end to the other, touch it down. Don’t throw it forward.

Really? I’m anything but an expert in Japanese history but weren’t they very anti-western back in the empire’s days?

Also not an expert, just talking from what I remember from history class: in the mid 19th century, Japan underwent a period of rapid westernization and industrialization called the Meiji Restoration. This was at least in part a response to western interference in the region, including a pivotal moment when the US forced the country to sign unequal trade deals by showing up with some big naval vessels.

So it was kind of a love-hate relationship. They didn’t like the westerners invading their country, but they also admired them enough that they not only adopted western tech, but also a bunch of social and political customs.
