I understand that they’ve got a job to do, immigration, but I just feel like he was specifically targeted because of what’s going on where he’s from, his home country,

Isn’t that true for most of the immigrants

It’s extremely weird to see people fixating - laser like - on the tiny fraction of people who get reported as “Trump supporting” while seemingly ignoring the tens of thousands who were Harris supporters or (far more commonly, since they’re often undocumented or unhoused) completely cut out of the domestic political system.

As though these massive nationwide ICE raids conducting an ethnic cleanse are somehow the Karma Police and not just ethnic cleanse squads that happen to side-swipe a few conservatives along the way.

The fixation isn’t in support of ICE but in satisfaction that at least some of those at fault suffer under their own hateful desires. They voted for the leopard to eat faces and are shocked when it eats their face.

    BREAKING NEWS! This Just In!

“Republicans are shocked at any one at any time being detained indefinitely after intentionally empowering and assembling a large militant force who operates purely extrajudicially without due process. We’ve got Tom live on the scene to ask one of them about this development, Tom?”

“Tell the camera what you just told me a moment ago, please.”

“Well I don’t think that’s what due process means, they still go to see an immigration court, don’t they?”

    “No.”

    “Well, they should.”

“Maybe you should vote for somebody who makes that happen.”

    “Like Donald Trump?”

    “Wrong again.”

I am in constant awe of how these people are incapable of pointing the finger towards the issue here.

I am aware that maga is a cult, but we have reached the point where Trump and the Republicans are openly, brazenly committing acts that their own supporters disagree with. How much more obvious does the situation need to become before people start placing the blame where it belongs?

It won’t be obvious ever to these people, because their reality is only what they and their associates see in FOX News. That they don’t get concerned by what is happening is because they never hear or see what is happening.

It amazes me that these articles keep appearing and the Democrats are unable to leverage this into votes. Writing these people as stupid is useless. We still have to win elections with a large population of stupid people.

Democrats are unable to leverage this into votes

Not for lack of trying. Harris made repeated trips down to the boarder to play “Tough On Crime” dress-up for the conservatives. She even did the famous Do Not Come speech, aimed at Guatemalan migrants fleeing their own domestic (US sponsored) ethnic cleansing.

You’d think folks obsessed with “border security” would love Democrats, given how regularly they advance bills to harden and militarize the border. Unless of course… this isn’t about “security” at all. It is about white supremacy and the consolidation of power within a single ethno-nationalist party.

In that case, why on earth would white nationalists side with a party full of non-white people? Why do Democrats spend so much time and money and man-hours attempting to court their vote, while spending even more time and money and man-hours alienating the votes of people of color and left-liberal migrant families?

We still have to win elections with a large population of stupid people.

“Hey you fucking idiots, vote for me!”

Democrats who do politics (Zohran Mamdani, Bernie Sanders, AOC) don’t pander to the correct coalition of real estate tycoons and cryptocurrency brokers that Democrats who just want an cushy job and an easy paycheck (Andrew Cuomo, Henry Cuellar, Kristen Sinema, Bill/Hillary Clinton) need in their corner.

I think the only malicious people are the once that knew exactly what would happen and saw a benefit to them or how they can abuse it for themselves. The people believing their bad situation is caused by x group of people are just stupid. They cannot comprehend the complexity of their own problems, therefore the easy awnser of, other people bad, is what they gravitate towards. And sometimes they are so lazy to think that they just follow whatever the neighbors or other people around them say, to be part of the group…

Reminder that Fox News was created in the wake of Watergate specifically because media coverage of the scandal went from non-existent to shifting public opinion against it in weeks. It was created to be a dedicated Republican party propaganda platform to prevent that from ever happening again.

Nixon aides wanted a pro-administration network, and some of them were eventually instrumental in getting Fox News going, but it took over 20 years between Watergate and the launch of FNC.

For sure, but Watergate was specifically the spark that inspired them.

The comment you replied to included the caveat “eventually”, but the whitewater scandal was almost the opposite, as it was largely the right wing looking for scandals to promote on places like Fox News.

          We know that.

But that didn’t stop ALL the german being called nazi after WWII and all being appalled by their (in)action and the pain their nation did to others.

I had a German colleague apologizing to me for his ancestors actions (who killed some family members at my grandparents generation). None of us were born when that happened but he wanted to say it as he was ashamed by his grandparents (in)actions. I was sad for him because he didn’t do anything wrong but he was taking the weight of his nation history personally.

Do you want to do that or - more probably - do you want your children to do that later? They will ask for forgiveness to the descendants of the people impacted today saying: “I’m sorry that my parents didn’t do anything to stop that”

Because your ICE gestapo-like state organization is doing appalling actions TODAY in plain sight. And you - as Americans - will be remembered as people who lets this happen.

Yep. That already happened. So we know.

        No, he DOES deserves this

No he doesn’t because NO ONE deserves to be deported by ICE. We can quibble later about what constitutes justice for people who enable Trump supporters, and I’m not going to police your feelings about him or people like him…I know what community I’m posting in…but supporting his deportation is not productive for the people Mr. Karimi and his wife hurt with their rhetoric and complicity! Because then, all the government and media have to do to manufacture your consent for the deportations is smear the deportees’ characters.

If you think he deserves social ostracisation or some other consequence then sure, fine, but deportation by the American Gestapo? Even if you think he deserves the worst, we don’t deserve the consequences of yet another ICE deportation of one of our neighbors.

Everything the State does is imposed on us by the capitalist class. So even if you would support his neighbors running him out of town…this is completely different! This is an imposition on the community that he’s no longer allowed to be a part of it. And while today it happened to a Trump supporter, it happens just as often to upstanding or even beloved people in the community. We shouldn’t be tolerant of any interference of the capitalist class in our affairs, even when it hurts someone I personally don’t like.

Mr. Karimi is a xenophobic ass hat who I’m certain would never fight for one of us, but he’s still one of our neighbors.

My eyes almost rolled all the way out of my head reading this article. The dude is from IRAN, and this blindsided them.

To be clear, it sounds like this dude is a loving family man and member of the community, and he did not deserve this. And even if he was a scumbag, we don’t use secret police to deal with scumbags.

But sometimes it hurts to have the depth of some people’s oblivious ignorance revealed so starkly. Some other comments have already pointed out the stupid “golly I think there might be bad people on the left AND the right!” conclusion at the end of the article. But here’s another gem from in the middle:

“My husband himself, even being from Iran, supported Trump, his immigration policies, and understood he was trying to protect the American people and was praying he helped free the Iranian people,” Gardner told Newsweek.

These people look at an elderly hateful narcissist of a grifter and parasite, and hear his messages of hate and division and exclusion, and apparently the image formed in their dusty brains is Captain Fucking Planet!

          Cippola explains it

These are Cipolla’s five fundamental laws of stupidity:

          1. Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

          2. The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

          3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

          4. Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

          5. A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.

I have come to understand that this is the explanation but it still doesn’t make sense in a way that I can internalize. I don’t get the mechanics of stupidity because having what I would have called average intelligence seems like such an easy bar to clear. A+B=C comes so naturally to me that I literally can’t force my brain to do anything different and yet I know people personally who obviously don’t do that at all on their own and it amazes me. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to figure out what they’re actually doing with their thoughts. All I know for sure is that logic doesn’t exist until someone else starts the process and that is baffling.

The way a stupid persons brain works is a mystery. Understanding that is my struggle even though I know that it is the answer to the original question.

He uses hypnosis techniques while projecting vague enough ideas to people who need to hear that it’s all going to be okay. I am one that falls for it, that’s how I researched it to figure it out. That’s why I tell people to speed up his videos to 1.5 for family that have gone maga, it breaks the spell.

The guy talks like he feels strongly about issues but remains absolutely vague, which allows people to subconsciously fill in the blanks, so they hear whatever they want to hear.

That thing that I’m afraid of, he is going to solve that once and for all, without fussing about saying things are complicated like the democrats would.
