Heard some guys talking about this…
Assuming you had ample counter space, do you want small appliances - toaster, blender, panini press, etc - out on the counter or should they be put put away in a cupboard after use?

The guys were complaining that their partners wanted everything put away – even stuff they use every morning like the toaster and blender.

On the counter: Microwave, kettle, coffee grinder, toaster.

    Kept in pantry:

Blender, instant pot, food processor, slow cooker, immersion blender, big Kitchen Aid mixer.

There have been times the mix has been different. In my household it’s my husband who would want everything tucked away, I would keep more out.

I do have ample space and tend to keep them on the counters with exceptions. The waffle press is out because we use it more than the blender which is away. The food processor is out though cause we use it more.

I’m in the middle of our kitchen reno right now and I’m gonna hang big heavy duty wire shelves in the one section. They’re gonna hold an air fryer, ice maker, toaster, etc. Might even put a kegerator under them.

If I use it multiple times a week (like the coffeemaker and toaster), it lives on the counter. Things that only get used occasionally (like the stand mixer and food processor) live in the cupboard. Basically if it isn’t going to get used again this week, it gets put away.

I’m not putting a blender or toaster away after using them in the morning. Whoever wants me to can pound sand.

The things I use should be on the counter and the things everybody else uses need to be put away.

    Jk

I do both depending on how often I use the appliance and how easy it is to store. Putting everything away each time seems like a big waste of time when you use the appliance regularly.

I really prefer more counter space, but I wouldn’t put away daily use appliances like the coffee maker. If counter space wasn’t an issue, I would still prefer a more clean look of having less appliances out. It’s less visual clutter and kitchens already have a lot of visual clutter generally.

Crumbs and such still collect under the appliances on the counter and it’s a pain to clean around them every time as well.

Ya, I’m kinda torn… All the things you mention, but then there’s my ADHD which makes objects disappear from existence if I don’t see them.

Good point and that’s a struggle for me sometimes! I almost never use the InstantPot that it’s in my cupboard. But I have enough slow cooker recipes to pull that out frequently regardless of “out of sight, out of mind”.

Maybe aiming to have minimal appliances is the way to go?

Every day stuff out, or if having stuff often for a few weeks, like being on a toast binge.

But if not using for over a week most stuff should be put away.

We keep microwave and instapot accessible, but toaster is really a few times a year thing. Blender is probably more often, but still rare.

Depends on how often its used. Ice maker, Coffee maker, and rice cooker, always on the countertop. Blender, instant pot, and air fryer, top of the fridge.

That’s all we have. The only other thing I’d add is a mixer, but we honestly don’t do enough baking or cooking to justify it rn. Counter space is precious.

Putting something away that’s used daily is inconvenient. Unless you have no space, I fail to see why you wouldn’t have it out.

Putting a toaster or a microwave seems insane to me. Pretty much anything else that isn’t bolted down is fair game depending on your personal preferences. I don’t know if I have any logical justification for this or if it’s just an instinct, but maybe if I think about it, the microwave is too heavy to bother moving and the toaster’s likely to drop crumbs and be more hassle than it’s worth.
