They’re not fully carbon fibre. The inner core of the barrel is steel, but it’s relatively thin. The layers of carbon fibre are then wrapped around it to get the compressive strength you’d need a lot of steel to achieve. So you get the same or better accuracy at a lower weight.

The tradeoff is the barrel loses a ton of thermal mass which means they heat up very quickly. Not so good for a combat rifle.

War has brought us countless technological advancements like radio, which led to cell phones and the vast interconnected network we all use every day in modern times that has led to tbe creation of “AI.”

So the answer to “War, what is it good for?” is “absolutely nothing.”

I said to my kids the first time Trump was voted in that there is the market of suckers that will but any garbage so long as you Mega market it. My kids are good people so didn’t take advantage of that but we have seen so, so many businesses that have popped up, not just Trump family stuff, to take advantage. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t moral and ethical. The grift is so easy against 25% of the population in (every?) country.

They pour a cup and, “This stuff tastes like shit lol.” and they’d keep buying it because Black Rifle pisses off the libs, it has a gun on it, and the makers are making the brainwashed snowflakes feel manly for having Manly Gun Label Coffee.

Right, and my very strong suspicion is they also really insinuated themselves into the lives of US military people. Whether aggressive marketing, or lots of “respect the troops/thank a veteran” style pandering and t-shirts and hoodies and all that shit, or a combination of all that, they definitely feel like a Nine Line Medevac level of cynicism company. It’s been years but I bet at least one of these companies has fully-transparently fascist apparel for sale right now. Fascism really seems to make for such easy business, at least to the right customers, sadly.

I always remember one particular dude who appeared to have gone ‘full hooah’ I guess you could say, as military and exercise and, idk, gear seemed nearly his whole identity, and he was basically hawking this ridiculous coffee. It was a perfect fit (if contrived, maybe even on both sides).

I also love the idea of him bringing a long term supply of HRT onto the battlefield. T vials much like E really want to be stored at room temperature (20-25 C, with short excursions of 15-30 C), so even if he was the badass he thinks he’s a few hot days away from ruining his supply

The gamer gets 5000 credits for the kill. He purchases a new 4-pack of explosive drones and a 12-pack of Monster energy. The system logs where the kill happened and, when the area is confirmed to be clear, a scavenger is dispatched to collect the victims rifle and thermos, which will both be melted down for raw materials. The scavenger leaves the rest.

The idea that skrangly gamers are going to dominate wars from their basements using remote weapons is kind of a silly cope. Ukraine isn’t throwing out their rifles or tanks or anything just because drones exist. Drone warfare isn’t rendering all conventional warfare obsolete, it’s supplementing it and forcing it to evolve in its consideration.

99% of 2A types are simply not ready for warfare of any kind through, and that goes beyond just the considerations of drones.

Yeah, conventional military force is still in use but supposably over 80% of kills in Ukraine are done with drones, and drones shape anything that can happen on a battlefield now. So I’d say its safely on the side of domination.

Tho technically its usually basements very close to the frontline, which a decent chance of being razed by enemy drones or artillery

The real problem with 2A types.

When the military is facing another country, they have to worry about civilians and potentially inaccurate location data and how other countries will react etc.

It’s as much a thinking diplomacy game as it is shooting shit.

If the government decides to go full authoritarian on its own people, they will just blast the entire 5000 person rural town with a load of napalm and let everyone else know that any other local militias thinking of playing hero will get the same, so buck the fuck up and get in line citizens. Because the normal "rules of war’ aren’t going to mean shit to a violent fascist authoritarian take over on local soil.

It’s exaggeration… The people flying the drones are generally very physically fit and flying by fiber optics out in the field so the drones can’t be disrupted. They’re also carrying weapons and other heavy gear, and escorted by friendlies, in case someone tries to get the jump on them

But it’s funnier to play into the fact that drones are genuinely dominating the battlefield

Fiber optics is pretty rare compared to regular analog, and there is obvious price, range and battery considerations.

True, you need boots on the ground, but more importantly you need the right boots on the ground. These guys fantasize about being the “operator” type special forces, which just fundamentally aren’t able to gain or hold territory, just like drone operators can’t. Drone operators however are great at hitting enemy infantry and equipment for cheap with low risk.

Drone operator is the most risky job right now, they are a few kilometers back from the frontline but that’s about where positive side of things ends.

Infantry in the hottest part of the front just sits there (for month sometimes, true) if there is an assault they are trying to kill someone, but that’s about it.

Compared to pilots, where they need very specific places due to radio horizon, they need pretty bulky antennae (which needs either battery or generator to work so requires constant attention), they need to manage explosives, they need to charge batteries on time, they need to go out constantly, they are working for 12 hours every day at least, they need to change equipment (different frequencies require different antennas), they need good or at least passable internet connection and they are biggest targets close to the frontline, m*scovites often use multiple bombs just to destroy one single position if found. Believe me they aren’t see-trough thin nerds.

There are attack positions that don’t use analog video and fly digital only. Either over starlink or lte or any other type of connection, but all of them with exception of satellite connection are ausceptible to the same problems as analog. And if the pilots themselves are further out they need spotters that are close to the frontline which need to manage everything still, they just don’t fly.

You better be good at hitting an erratically-moving high-speed target then, because if you miss (or even hit but after its momentum will carry it into blast radius of you) then you’re dead anyway.

Sawed-off shotguns are stupid because the immediate spread is ridiculously wide and it the shot loses velocity very quickly (and never had time to combust all the propellant for initial speed!). Drones are about all they are good for. :)

Going to test the spread at camp Saturday. Bet money it’s 4-5 feet at 35, basically a short-range blast cone of weak, slow pellets. A 30" barrel is 4-5 inches at that distance, a very different thing!
