I could have sworn I read something similar a few weeks ago …
named after the miniature inhabitants of “Gulliver’s Travels,” who stand just 6 inches tall
Ok, suuuuuper awkward thing to say here but… my penis is precisely one Lilliputian tall, which I understand to be just about average
Also, in Romanian, “puța” means penis
Are there other languages with a similar word for penis? Did Jonathan Swift know this? Was this deliberate? Are the Lilliputians really just “Lil’ dicks” ?
EDIT: Has John Oliver already done this? I feel like John Oliver has already done this
Is it hallucination or ability?
Are they blue?
The trip to Lilliput sounds fun. The return trip through the ER, not so much.
Did you consider the tiny people are always there? The mushroom just lifts the veil from your consciousness, allowing you to see them.
I mean, we absolutely could test this experimentally, depending on the nature of these hypothetical beings.
For example, you could give multiple participants these mushrooms. Bring them into a sealed room one by one. Ask them to report the number of tiny beings around them. Ask them to politely ask the tiny beings to remain where they are.
Imagine if you cycled ten participants through, and each told you there were precisely 11 little humans in the room. With simple methods like this, you could apply statistical hypothesis testing to the results and see if the success rates differs significantly from chance. You absolutely could do real science on this. Science is perfectly capable of testing certain kinds of supernatural claims. Science would have a very hard time trying to determine what happens after death, if anything. But invisible tiny people inhabiting our reality, that we can miraculously see if we do one very specific thing? That’s absolutely testable using the scientific method.
Yes, use scientific method or Sagan’s baloney detection kit! Maybe a study that checks brainwaves to see what areas are active during the experiment and see what happens, measurable things in the tests and in the control group to study it.
Lilliputian hallucinations refer to the perception of small beings, often resembling tiny humans or animals, that appear to interact with the real world. These hallucinations can occur from this shroom, certain neurological disorders and alcohol withdrawal. Lilliputian.
That’s exactly what the Lilliputians want you to think
That’s what big Lilliputian wants you to think! Don’t be gullible!
What if each person hallucinates a number of tiny people per square meter so everyone would see equally amount because of the inherent size of the room? What’s the next step to determine they’re real? Different sized rooms?
we can cross that bridge when we come to it…
Aha. That’s what my kitten loses her mind about and starts chasing.
Kitty greebles are little peoples?
That was my first thought upon hearing about this. No article on this though has ever said if people see the same exact little people doing the same thing.
Brigadoon shroom
^ This dude is on the shrooms right now.
Welcome to my baseline reality, some take drugs to get here, others to leave here, and the ones that mother gives you, don’t do anything at all

The second season of Common Side Effects is only three months away! I’m not normally that interested in animated shows, but I’m very excited for this one.
If you’ve not seen it, the first (and only, sadly) season of Scavengers Reign is also excellent.
Scavengers Reign is also excellent.
It is! Really a must watch for anyone who likes old European style animated science fiction (Mœbius and the like), I’d say.
Reminded me of The Masters of Time, which I think might have traumatized me a bit after catching it on TV as a (probably too young) kid, and only recently rediscovered, from a YouTube video of all places, after having forgotten about it for decades.
Ive done enough drugs in my life to kill a rhino and in all my trips ive never hallucinated more than visual trails and lights. This has me intrigued.
I was at a party ~25 years ago and there were kittens running around. At some point, it became unclear to me which of the kittens were real. Some definitely were, but I was sometimes unsure if what was running around me was actual kitten or hallucinated kitten. That’s probably the furthest gone I’d been and I still was able to understand that this was the situation. I also did a lot of stuff back then (and don’t touch anything these days).
The most intense hallucination I’ve ever experienced by a wide margin was from salvia, which is legal for some fucking reason. Literally everything I could see and hear wasn’t real. I guess I’m glad I did it but I think I’m not going to do it again. Thankfully is only lasts a few minutes.
Edit: during my trip, I realized that the entire world was passing by in frames just like a movie and I fell out of the frame I was in. I had fallen outside of my dimension and there were a handful of other ramenshaman that had also fallen out and we started desperately trying to crawl back into out frames. Then the universe started folding and I was afraid I was going to be crushed in the crease of the fold.
Man it’s always layers of reality peeling away or something like that with Salvia, I’ve heard that same sort of trip story many times. It’s wild that so many have similar experiences with a hallucinogen.
Before reading this, I was going to share something about salvia as well. Its the only drug where I had actual real life hallucinations. Once after smoking it, my living room was filled with friends in a party/birthday setting (I was actually alone at that moment).
Man I just thought I can’t imagine doing salvia alone. Then came to the realization you’re basically doing salvia alone every single time. With other halucinagynics you often have shared hallucinations or at least thoughts and experiences with the people you’re partaking with but with salvia the minute you hit it you’re on your own on a very personal journey.
I made an edit describing my trip
I was an apple sliding along a tray in a cafeteria.
Well lemon Tek 4.5g if mushrooms and start playing “the wall” album in the dark once you really start to trip and you’ll experience a lot of visuals and feelings. Like, holy hell. I was wore out from the emotional rollercoaster. It also felt like 5 hours went by, even though the album is only like an hour twenty.
Have you ever smoked salvia extract? That will alter reality
benadryl causes solid hallucinations at high doses, but it’s also miserable, so maybe don’t
Can the tiny people see us too?
Oooh yes they can…

The difference with them is that they can see us all the time.
Uhh… All the time? Even when I’m…?
Garak: Especially when you’re…
I have so many questions, the article focuses on the mushroom builogy and moves past the hallucinations pretty quick. What are these tiny people doing, do they see you, are they people or something else, do you get egfects as other hallucinations or just the tiny people? The effects of LSD and mushrooms are similar enough you recognize the sensation, is this something wholly different? I need answers!
Also, if two people in the same room eat the undercooked mushrooms do they see the same population of little people or different populations of little people. If it’s a shared experience this raises some serious existential questions, otherwise I’d chalk it up to brains are crazy.
It’s BS. There are no trip reports. I know the connesuierr drug community would buy this just to attempt seeing the little people. Can’t find a single person who says “I did this and it was….”
Right? It says it’s a common food that has a warning to cook it for a specific amount of time to avoid the hallucinations. It must be a horrible experience where you get crazy sick and hallucinate, otherwise lots of people would be doing if recreationally.
Apparently the hallucinations appear whether your eyes are open or closed and last for up to a week, sometimes more depending on dosage. And those are from people who ate some that were undercooked, so presumably most of the psychoactive material had been neutralized.
It doesn’t sound like a pleasant experience.
I mean, that never stopped the good folx on https://www.erowid.org/
Yeah it really seems unlikely that a chemical agent could make different people hallucinate the same thing. This really sounds like stealth marketing.
I want it so hard to be that everyone is seeing the same thing and those little fools are really there!!!
The animated TV show Common Side Effects has a similar underlying plot with people who take a specific shroom. They haven’t exposed what they do, but everyone who takes it sees them.
Season 2 in late January
I’ve heard DMT described as seeing little cities or a village of workers working away.
I wonder if it’s similar.
I’ll stop short of saying that everyone who describes DMT that way is a fool (drugs can affect people differently, and I’ve never taken it orally so maybe I’m missing something), but the “machine elf” stuff is just nonsense. It’s just your brain making insane fractal patterns that fold in on themselves and shit. It’s pretty cool, but there are no “entities” waiting for you.
buy a shroom, report back with results
That’s the true scientific spirit!
I’ve got my best men on it!
I find this sketchy. There would be reports on erowid or bluelight and there are none. I think this is bs
It hasn’t been widely available in the west and needs to be rather fresh. Heat destroys this particular effect of the mushroom, for example.
Someone send the weird lanky dude with the vocal fry! (Me pretending that I don’t know his name is Hamilton).
He’s still alive right?
What exactly is destroyed by heat? Is there a compound in the mushroom that has been identified?
In the article they mention no specific substance has been isolated. Though, there are now 2 (or 3) varieties of mushroom each from a different location that provide similar hallucinations, so it might be easier to find the substance if it is shared by all the varieties and if there aren’t a lot of other chemicals in common.
They do know it’s not psilocybin or LSD (in these mushrooms).
Well lsd isn’t found in nature, but it is synthesized from ergot, a grain fungus.
Yeah, that’s what I thought, but the article keeps referencing it like it would be something we’d be likely to find while sciencing those mushrooms.
Yes, even further than that, there is no known hallucinogen in these mushrooms. Identifying the mechanism could open up some interesting possibilities.
Side note, the onset of the effects is 12-24 hours after the ingestion of the raw or undercooked mushrooms. This delayed onset has resulted in the hypothesis that the active compound is actually a prodrug that gets converted into something else that’s psychoactive as we metabolize it.
I’ve been following this story for a while and find it fascinating. Can’t wait for Hamilton Morris to do a video on it.
Heat destroys all the other trippy mushrooms, too.
It’s sketchy because there is no way to force a given sort of hallucination.
How could a chemical agent control the hallucination so specifically? I mean, distorting perception of size makes sense, but tiny colorful people?
is there like local stories about those tiny humans that could influence people mind?
Or again, it doesn’t give hallucinations but just the ability to see the tiny people, that’s the most logical conclusion!
A lot of drugs have common shared experiences. It’s why you know it’s nothing but turtles all the way down.
Really very few of them when you consider how many drugs there are. Shared experiences can be similar, but rarely duplicate details like lots of tiny, brightly colorful people. I mean, two friends who just saw a monster movie together could both hallucinate the monster, but this isn’t going to happen to diverse groups living far apart.
anything out of science daily should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism. Missing way too many details for y’all to get excited about some new type of trip.
Common Side Effects
The visuals I get from good ol’ fashioned cubes come in the context of a severe and obvious intoxication. I know my jeans aren’t actually turning into circuitry because it’s quite clear to me that I’m on drugs. I don’t think I would react very favorably to seeing hundreds of tiny humans while expecting to be sober.
That’s the scary difference between psychedelics and hallucinogens: in the former you’re aware of your experience, but in the latter you may think that you’re actually speaking to your dead grandmother (I’m looking at you, datura).
what an odd name your grandmother had
MildlyExtremely Interesting
