Too late Andy. You are not going to be part of the tech overlord aristocracy, no matter how much you simp now.

Maybe it’s a good thing for you. May avoid the the french doctor’s invention that way.

When someone shows you who they really are, believe them the first time. And sadly, this is who Proton is right now, this guy. And this is who the Proton board is, people who support this guy and his vision.

    This is proton. Shop accordingly.

As much as I think this Andy fellow is a douche, I appreciate Proton is encrypting all my stuff, which is still way better than gmail. For that, I will continue paying for the service. It’s just so much work to switch over email - I don’t want to have to do it again.

I mean it only matters if the person you communicate with is also on Proton. All correspondence you have with anyone using Outlook/Gmail will still allow Microsoft/Google to read your emails

Never used them because their software wasn’t open source, and thus meant I would be unable to switch to another provider. Seems I made the right choice.

I’ve been using Zoho for over a decade now for nearly all my transactions. Gmail comes in handy for account related things. For web subscriptions that matter zero to me if hacked I use proton.

I recently switched to a custom domain and it’s probably the best 12 bucks a year to spend. If you ever have to switch email providers for whatever reason it’s super easy because the domain is yours and you just need to update DNS records to your new email provider rather than updating your email address on tons of separate sites

Yes, abusing their feedback website will certainly make them do what you want instead of dismissing you as the crazy fringe people you are.

Using their feedback website as intended us hardly abusing. They want to know why people are leaving. This tells them what to do to fix it.

I am, once again, offering to take over as CEO of Proton.

My work focuses on nonprofit-stakeholder-government relations. Specifically how organizations mediate between state agencies and stakeholders. No agenda beyond aligning mission, vision, and values, and keeping it that way.

Reach out if you prefer that to help guide Proton somewhere other than the trash bin of distrust.

It’s a bit surprising how many CEO’s express disdain for their users and employees.

When employees are reduced to an “input resource” number on a spreadsheet, and they sit insulated from user complaints, and likely surround themselves with sycophants, I suppose it’s inevitable.

Yes, but also the corporate world has a nasty tendency to promote psychopaths to CEO positions because they think a lack of humility is the same as competence.

They aren’t all bad though yet all of them generally get a bad rap because the internet accepts conspiracy theories as gospel. I’ve worked the tech industry for three decades now and will argue the middle management make up most of the psychopathic population per capita.

It’s not just in the corporate world. Trump is a good example. He’s a complete douchebag and obviously has no clue about anything, but he somehow makes up for it with his extreme self-confidence.

The world is extremely complex, so it’s understandable that posers who claim to have figured it out are popular. I think many people even know that the guy they’re following is full of shit, but they can’t accept that they are victims of forces they don’t control or even understand, so they lie to themselves to at least feel a little bit of security.

Its a great metric for a corporate job. Still into how they decide what features are built for their products, what gets priority. Best places I worked at always involved customer feedback in some way. Arrogant line go up places always chat about looking at competitors and feeling out the market.

Turns out when you build things customers want, they keep being customers. Who woulda thunk.

PR department is propaganda department. When propaganda earned a negative reputation, Edward Bernays, the same person who wrote the book that coined the term Propaganda coined the term PR to replace it in an American corporate context.

The only reason I haven’t cancelled yet is because I moved my family, including my parents, onto a family plan with them, and that’s going to be a lot of work to move everyone again.

But this shit fucking sucks. I recommended this product to my loved ones because it’s supposed to be trustworthy and secure, and now I find out it’s neither of those things.

If you’re a Proton customer right now and not in a position to simply cancel your account, submit a support ticket laying out your concerns. I got a detailed and lengthy response back within a day (one that was clearly not a form letter either, it directly addressed all the points I raised). Flooding their support channels will make it clear that they are in some serious shit here.

Write to the Proton Foundation too. Demand that Yen be removed from the board and the company, and that serious changes be made to the leadership at Proton to ensure this never happens again.

The advice I use for myself is always assume a service will either turn shitty enough that you need to leave, or just shut down due to some reason, so I try and only use services that make it easy to move away from.

So instead of Proton or Tuta, use a normal email provider that provides IMAP and supports a custom domain name. There are good ones around for privacy and features like Mailbox.org or similar.

A domain is ~$12/year and ensures you (hopefully) never need to change a bunch of emails on accounts again even if moving to a different email provider.
