Bold words from someone that did not read the dialog in spyro
Don’t buy this game or anything by the studio ever.
It was a good studio and is a great game, but it was taken over by some really really shitty people in a hostile takeover. A bunch of the core employees got superfucked and have spoken out against it. It was 100% offensive greed.

Oh god. Looking at the Wikipedia entry, it was apparently super messy and still is. I’m not sure what to go by, now. I’d probably still suggest playing it if you care about depth and intelligence of dialogue, which in my book, in this game is SS-Tier.
Some games give you options to pick what to say, you choose one, and your character says something stupid that has nothing to do with what you thought. This game is like the total opposite of it, in that you can 100% read into the perspective and intent, and try to infer several steps out. Super super fun stuff. Very very satisfying.
If you don’t enjoy philosophy and rhetoric, probably pass on the game. Ngl. But, if this type of thing interests you at ALL, give it a shot.
But probably pirate it.
I’ve played a bit of it, however I kinda don’t get what fun the randomness mechanic brings to it, like I got game over 3 times because the action I chose had 70% success rate, however my guy still had a mental breakdown over counting some footsteps
Let go of the idea of “success” being passing the check. There are lots of incredible failure results in the game, just roll with the randomness and let the world happen.
Successful rolls are mostly not necessary to progress the game. Your guy is many things, including a bit of a loser who just hit rock bottom, but your success as a player of the game is only loosely connected to his success as a character attempting things.
If it gets too much, remember that the arthropods are in silent and meaningless awe of you.
It’s the only game I have ever played that reads like a classic piece of literature. Usually video games have pretty low-brow writing, even the best written ones.
I couldn’t get into Disco Elysium, maybe I’ll give it another go.
It is pretty decent, but if you don’t like reading/listening to lots of text, you won’t have a good time.
The super-racist NPC is the only one I went straight to skipping dialogue over. He was a useless wall of ham
I skipped like 90% of the dialog on my first play through. In retrospect that was kind of funny since I only had an inkling of what was going on story wise. I did end up playing the game like 4 times so I did read more of it later.
yeah it’s strange but that’s why I couldn’t get into it. I love reading books, I’m always reading something. But when I play games I want to play, I don’t want to read a book and so I just couldn’t get into Disco Elysium. I wanted to, i really did, and I’ve tried several times now but I’d rather lay on a couch and read a book, not sit at my desk and read one.
Might be better on console? I was playing it on the couch and had a good old time. Like being involved in story time.
Same here. It just is a weird story with a sense of humor that isn’t really my thing. I can understand the appeal though.
