WWF. Especially during the attitude era. It was like 1998 through 2000 that nearly everyone was into wrestling, especially with what the WWF was doing and some of what WCW was doing with NWO. But, as the years piled on, it seemed like the flaws became more apparent. I look back at that period now and was like “…why did we like this again? and what from it did people want?”. Because some people want swearing back, they want buckets of blood back, they want sex appeal back .etc
That was just car-crash television and I learned later that what both promotions were doing back then, were doing whats called hot-shotting. It’s a wrestling term where you’re booking things in a seemingly appealing matter that audiences want to see. That’s what they were doing and it did honestly work for a long time.
If there was anything I’d want out of wrestling anymore these days, is competent booking and for matches to feel like and be big-fight moments. The cat is out of the bag for what wrestling really is, it’s just about characters, smoke and mirrors and highly choreographed moves that when they look routine, stand out.
At least some of the video games were still fun.
My belief in the fact others work with passion if time and money is given as asked.
Never do I question the price or time taken anymore because I can afford it now, since I’m no longer working minimum wage.
My mechanics and electricians can’t figure out anything on my car.
My home exterior worker was supposed to be here 3 weeks ago and still hasn’t come even though I paid 60% of it in advance.
The guy that fixed my roof drains (idk their actual name) had to fix it twice even though I told him to charge me more just to make sure it’s done right the first time.
My autobody technician fixed a part of my door that had paint peel and it’s peeling again just a few months later.
I’m fucking disappointed. I thought if I gave them time and money they’ll do things right. But no. It’s the fucking same… They don’t give a damn about me, my house, my car, my time, or my money…
Budy I hear you. It’s hard to find good trades. I’m in trades and fuck me if I’m not constantly embarrassed for them more often then not. It doesn’t matter what time and money you offer, if the guy is shit the guy is shit no amount of money will or time will fix that. They should have invested their own time and money a long time ago to improve and get better at their trade/craft skill. Worse of most of the time they don’t even know they are doing a shit job because no one told them or called them out.
I’m gonna be honest here, sounds like you need to be more selective in who you trust for your various services.
The way you describe these people, it sounds like you’re going with your “uncles friend” type of people or the trashy companies that are ran by someone pushing their staff to do quick/slop jobs for high profit.
Get that exterior worker to small claims before their business mysteriously dissolves into oblivion.
You can can give me a million dollars to paint your ceiling, but that’s not going to make me Michelangelo.
You need to find the people that take actual pride in their work, which is incredibly hard to do. Failing that, the established businesses that stand behind their work. If that autobody tech doesn’t warranty the paint job, they aren’t worth your business. If the guy re-fixing the drains is covering it on their own dime and making it right without a fuss, then that’s something to remember next time. Everyone makes mistakes, its how they handle them after the fact that’s important.
Having taste of what is a good work is already a challenge, taking pride in your work is a lifetime pursuit. Insanely hard to find people that love what they do and apply themselves constantly against it!
oh they definitely care about your money
This was a very confusing read about the world wildlife fund, I must say!
I expect the New World Order to get up to some crazy shit but pandas, buckets of blood, and sex appeal don’t mix.
I knew pandas were savage but this is a new low for them
I think they’re talking about WWE. Buckets of blood? I don’t think so.
Isn’t wrestling the Days Of Our Lives for guys?
I never understand why people like it, watch any other combat sport and actual fighting takes place.Wrestling is theater on steroids…literally.
It is, at its best, the peak of stupid trash reality television in a live show format. Nobody watches Pro-Wrestling for the intellectual and deep content, they watch it for fun. Its satisfying the same stupid lizard brain that gets off to giant monster movies.
I say this as someone who loved the Attitude Era and watched a bit of the 2016-2020 WWE era.
I always thought it was just acceptable softcore porn for gay people. Like being gay wasnt as accepted as it is today. It was an insult in schools. It was a constant witch hunt and if someone thought you were gay you were fucking finished.
It was cool, however, to watch incredibly muscular guys, oiled and sweaty, in their underpants and tight vests, repeatedly try to lie on top of eachother, and doing flips that involve ramming their crotch against the others butt.

That just sounds like a game of Rugby.

Sounds like you understand it perfectly, you just don’t appreciate it.
The first season of GLOW talks about the connection between soap opera and wrestling, btw, in addition to being damn fine television.
That’s pretty close. But people don’t watch it for the fighting…or rather, they don’t watch it to see one person put their combat skill against another to see who is better.
It’s more like a mostly-improv stage play with some pretty impressive stunts and acrobatics. When the show is on, every performer treats the situation as deadly serious and “yes ands” as hard as they can.
My favorite thing is when someone has to pretend that their opponent has real magic powers.
Don’t besmirch Days like that, wrestling is Passions for manly men.
Yes it is. The fighting is just connecting tissue.
I’d love to read about all those wacky and preposterous story arcs they had over the years.
Edit: I don’t know what Days of our lives is but I understand it’s a soap opera.
A friend won tickets to a local one and it was a lot of fun. It was like a huge group of LARPers and everyone got to participate in the spectacle in their own way. Definitely not a gender thing, either.
I guess it was like one of those themed restaurants with actors and events through the evening, where the whole point is everyone can get into it and have fun on a pirate ship or in Dracula’s castle or whatever the theme is.
But, I struggle to see how it could go to the scale and detail of what’s in the US. Watching it on TV seems more concerning than entertaining too. I had a housemate that played a White Mage in FFXI, and Pineapple Juice was how the class restored mana points. Dude started drinking nothing but pineapple juice IRL. That’s probably the only way I can explain “Pro Wrestling” in the US. It must be targeted at that guy.
Yeah, because watching people ACTUALLY beat each other into a bloody pulp is REAL entertainment for REAL men!!
Soap operas are stupid and not entertaining at all!
Sort of. My great grandmother watched wrestling matches in the 1950s in the south. Apparently it was the same stuff back then. My grandma always rolled her eyes when her mother would talk about it. Its just entertainment.
But you kinda pegged it. Some of the outlandish and crazy shit was entertaining. You could actually watch the heel get taken down or the face triumph over insurmountable odds. In actual fighting sometimes the asshole just wins.
Yeh. I always thought that the audience was kids and teen boys.
Anyone who was into wrestling from that era needs to give the Behind the Bastards episodes about it and Vince an attentive listen
Such a great set of episodes. And so many!
Yes so many. I didn’t think Vince McMahon, shitty though he is, deserved this many. That level is reserved for the Kissingers of the world if you ask me.
I think because there’s just so much one can find out. Some much shittier people might have more and worse things in their closets, but much harder to get written down or caught on camera!
I think if you want people to engage with your question, you need to post your self-answer separately, as a comment.
Seems to be fine for the question itself. Doing it this way is common, though typically the opener talks about premise more with the example being a short second paragraph.
Though I could definitely see having it as a reply due to length, also at least to stop non-answer top-level replies and at most to get engagement with their self-answer.
Um, no. It’s in the body of the title. Go back to Reddit for that.
Your loss 🤷
I’m seeing lots of engagement, I don’t think he lost out on much
I used to think that with enough public support we’d be able to avoid a world wide collapse within my lifetime.
I no longer believe that will happen.
Collapse of what?
All of it.
Post Ww2 US has made sure supply lines for advanced products has been relatively safe and secure, but only barely. This war with Iran has shown that we no longer live under that security blanket.
Population decline across the world will decimate economies of several countries, the worst being China. Once China falls, and its already started, and they grasp out at then biggest corner they have that continues to export (Taiwan) we won’t have anyone that can make CPUs/gpus at scale.
It’s why the US has tried to get cpu manufacturing within the US. But they can’t because it’s very hard. It’s also still dependent on source materials that only exist in China and in other parts of the world.
The Ukraine and Iran wars have also shown that’s it’s very cheap to blow shit up. Autonomous drones are in the thousands of dollars to make each while the defensive measures are in the hundreds of thousands per shot.
Once china’s working population can’t support their retired population things are going to get ugly. Someone will make a move on Taiwan or some other upstream supply chain widget and suddenly people will be digging out their old computers from the garage.
It’s going to get very bad.
Well that’s just geopolitics and economic upheval. That stuff happens all the time. I thought it might be something important.
Yo momma’s bed
My momma’s dead
Your momma sat on her headI don’t think this is very appropriate. You are making a joke out of homicide and a parent’s violent behavior. I’m great at parties.
That people would become more intelligent with computers. Woof.
Also some early fps. I mean, I don’t like fps on controller in general, but some with single analog sticks are torture ! Still fun sometimes though.
People were becoming smarter on computers and still are in many ways.
The problem is generally twofold:
- Computers/the internet is a tool, not an adequate education system.
- Corporatization and late-stage capitalism has turned virtually all mainstream Western websites into pro-faacist hellscapes with controlled opposition
My country’s history.
It’s glossed over on schools and disengaged with across almost all of society.
It’s also an endless record of genocidal actions of our colonisers.
It’s both depressing and enraging.
Please elaborate, at least tell us the country
New Zealand.
Māori had land, the English wanted it, so they took it. Often by simply murdering the inhabitants.
Human society in general and modern society in particular.
I was a big WWF fan during the early 90s through to the early 2000s.
In hindsight, i’m less enthusiastic about the attitude era. Yeah, the swearing, the extreme matches. It was all cool as a kid, but doesnt really hold up as an adult when you consider the harms from the drugs and traumatic brain injury
The early 90s still hold up for me. Hulk hogan vs. Warrior, old-school undertaker, sgt. Slaughter vs. Iron sheik… the over the top characters are what really make it “sports entertainment” for me
and yes, i’m aware a lot of guys from that era turned out to be huge shitheads. I was devastated when i found out warrior went off the deep end.
I really avoid looking up the latest news about my childhood heroes these days… (please god, dont let undertaker or stone cold turn out bad…)
If it’s any consolation, I have some friends who worked in close proximity to Undertaker’s podcast location and said when they ran into him he was still cool.
