#6 fuckin sent me lol
- Terrible choice, but if it works for you…
- For some use-cases, sure.
wine program.exe- “Then what have I been playing Pong on all this time?”
- It is, actually. WSL isn’t “proper” Linux, but it’s there!
- Yeah, imagine…
wow this post works!
For three, say “command prompt” instead.
In fairness, several major distros are available on the Microsoft store.
Linux doesn’t run Fortnite and that’s all you need to know about that shovelware.
- Best of luck with that
- If it works for you then great, that’s the power of freedom/choice
- Get good
- Used to be true but nope.
- I Don’t know and don’t care.
- That’s not code, it’s a progress bar, but better.
My dating tip?
YY/MM/DD
No love for YYYY-MM-DD?
If you see a date in that format, it’s pretty unambiguous.
Also great for naming files in the filesystem, and thereby giving it both context and a sorting space.
I started doing so in my company on the shared network space years ago, and many colleagues have started using this as well.
You’re right. I literally forgot the first two Y. Or rather I assumed they were implied.
iso 8601 or get out
See, my dating tip is the exact opposite.
DD/MM/YY
The worst date format. Even worse than Americans mm dd yy
Might I suggest Y/MM/DD/YYY ?
Thanks, but Y/M/DD/M/YYY already does it just fine for me
salty murican detector going offf
Days are shorter than months, which are shorter than years.
Makes sense to go with smallest to largest.
But this would lead to files from the first of any month and any year to be bunched together.
I prefer classifaction in descending order… Narrow down the yearx then the month then the day then the hour then the seconds. Absolutely nobody wants seconds first then minutes
It might make sense but that doesn’t make it better
I prefer large to small imo, plus computers prefer yy mm dd too
Ah, but the month number set is smaller than the day number set. It makes just as much sense to order by sets.
Plus, starting with the month gives you time to remember what day it is without having to sit there awkwardly.
Fuck you. Take my upvote.
Amazingly, the answer to #5 is yes!

what’s the original?
WSL?
Yes/F/Cali
Hey what r u upto? Pm?
I’m good yea, but nah not a Pm yet just a high ranking MP. You?
I’m King Charles.
I’m Spartacus
I am Spartacus!
No/F/Cali
So just like #2 then
ducks and runs away
Depends on use case. If Ubuntu is what you yourself like best? Then yeah totally.
If you want a stable system that just works, that doesn’t require tinkering and closely monitoring updates, and those are your only two choices? Yeah, Ubuntu is a much better choice than Arch.
Stock Arch, yeah, sure…ish. I have an Arch install that’s been running fine with no fuckery for 3 years, and there’s Arch derivatives that are really stable.
I have tried it and its not bad either.
I installed WSL, to install Ubuntu, to install Hackintosh, so I could VNC my self into it on my work laptop for testing apps on it.
So yeah, not bad.
Hold up. You’ve virtualised Mac OS via WSL? That’s pretty bad ass
Wouldn’t call it bad ass. It was just a bit weird installing a bad OS on a nice OS on an evil OS.
Also, there are good instructions online to achieve this.
Makes me remember that old meme about being able to play mario bros inside another mario game inside another, inside another emulator inside linux inside the matrix
Ugh you don’t need to write 30 million lines of code to install a browser. You need to compile 30 million lines of code to install a browser. 🙄
You get to compile 30 million lines of code to install a browser. :)
How to piss off a Linux guy in 3 steps:
Step 1: Use Windows
Step 2: Encounter a computer problem and ask the Linux guy for a solution.
Step 3: When they say they don’t know Windows, mock them for being so stupid despite staying in the terminal playing pretend hackerman all day.
I legitimately don’t know how to administer a Windows system anymore.
Just tell them to ask Copilot to fix it
A good one is saying windows is the best Linux distro because you can just run exes straight from the shell
~/dev/foo $ msbuild.exe MyProject2026UltimatePro.sln | grep Error(s)Try it and confirm there is no god
Also mention that the cli is how computers used to work
Go back to the retirement home grandpa. Computers are grok prompts now with subscription tokens. Pass me the verification can gramps. Heil musk!
Is Proton a Debian-based distro?
Why use Wine? All it does is emulate Windows.
WSL invalidates Linux’s existence.
Linus is the Colonel of Linux.
Linus is the Colonel of Linux.
Love it
fuck just kill me while you’re at it…

if the kernel isn’t set to forward .exe to wine,
wine example.exealso works.
“I’m also into linux, so I got a chromebook”
I did get a chromebook … and then I put Linux on it.
(Not bad for a $0.50 purchase.)
I mean, ChromeOS is immutable Gentoo, so yeah.
