I caught a mod at Late Stage Capitalism admitting they aren’t from the US, so they deleted all my posts and banned me.

I have 3 things to say:

    1. This is evidence? I can’t understand how this user ‘admits’ whatever you are claiming.

    2. As far I have read, the community info doesn’t mention anything about being US only or US centric.

    3. It is very xenophobic of you to think that a person not from the US must be a propagandist. We are people too. And the US meddled in our affairs first, and is still meddling.

directly benefits the fascist regime in power

My guy, we’re punching right, and both parties in the FPTP duopoly are right wing. They both serve the capitalist class, and always have. No matter how people in the US vote, the outcome serves capital.

I never tell people not to vote, only that we can’t vote your way out of capitalism.

        Previously:

The US government was never not captured by the bourgeoisie, because the US was born of a bourgeois revolution[1]. The wealthy, white, male, land-owning, largely slave-owning Founding Fathers constructed a bourgeois state with “checks and balances” against the “tyranny of the majority”. It was never meant to represent the majority—the working class—and it never has, despite eventually allowing women and non-whites (at least those not disenfranchised by the carceral system) to vote. BBC: [Princeton & Northwestern] Study: US is an oligarchy, not a democracy

The game is rigged. The election cycle’s pomp and circumstance is to divert your energy and attention from the fact that it’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.

My god, the evil foreigners have opinions on our politics! Who gives a fuck where they’re from. You got banned for being a nuisance.

You also forgot the first rule of a united front, it has to be explicitly anti-fascist. Democrats are not anti-fascist, anti-fascists do not support fascist states like Israel. A united front has hard red lines that cannot be crossed DESPITE its ideological hodgepodge. You are only part of the united front so long as you do not cross those lines.

ydi. how is it relevant where someone lives (unless the comm is only for americans, which it isn’t), except to imply that because they aren’t american, they can’t be trusted? the blight on lemmy world isn’t the token socialists being critical of us politics, it’s the democrats who can’t accept totally legit criticisms of their party, and jump directly to mccarthyism, which helps prove the criticism is valid imo.

They even think more people died under Trump. The genocide is still happening, and has had for seven decades, but WTF? Absolute disconnect with reality.

Biden repeatedly told debunked blood libel lies about those he was enacting genocide against. He kept saying he saw “beheaded babies” with his “own eyes”, over and over and over.

You know, there’s objective data showing how many people died in what administration. And you’re telling me less people died under Biden? Do you honestly believe that? Did it feel truthy to you when you said it? Is it your emotional truth? Yes, the genocide is still unfolding. It’s been going on for over seven decades. Yes, Republicans are also genocidal. That’s one of the few things they’re honest about. What does that say about Democrats? Biden repeatedly told debunked blood libel lies against the very people he was enacting genocide against, all from his campaign podium, over and over and over. He said he saw beheaded babies in ovens “with his own eyes”. WTF?

Give me a candidate that isn’t genocidal and I will vote for them. Otherwise, let Republicans run it all into the ground. America failing is the best option put before me, which is best for all humanity. That’s who I care about, not you, not me.

America is out of control and it needs to be stopped somehow. Democracy isn’t an option. I wish it was.

Well this is silly. The mod of that comm certainly seems to enjoy getting in fights. So modlog says you are banned for Rule 6 which relates to calling someone Tankie, Russian Bot, etc.

Be civil in comments and no accusations of being a bot, ‘paid by Putin,’ Tankie, etc. This includes instance shaming.

I think implying they were lying about where they are living does sort of fall under that, but its a reach.

That said, they also didn’t say they were not from US. Just that you wouldnt be able to see the point because you’re from the US. Nonsense, and obviously logically inconsistent, but not an admission. They also might be an immigrant of some kind, their post history mentions travelling in Texas and other states, so they have by their own words at least been to the US.

I would say its a wash. Ban was a bit of a powertrip unless they revise their rule 6 to explicitly include implications of false identity, but also this is right at the top of the rules and jumping to they’re a foreign propagandist is silly on a global platform.

That means any support for any liberal capitalist political party (like the Democrats) is strictly prohibited.

Why not just block the comm and move on? From what I’ve seen of your profile I can’t imagine a sub with that rule is going to be a good time for you.

I understand that setting off alarm bells, but if they were contemplating banning you for questioning their identity I don’t think its that weird to disengage as well. I considered setting a “no accusations of being a bot or paid actor” myself at one point and I was considering it because everything after that point in a comment chain is invariably toxic and carries an implicit demand to dox yourself to regain trust.

I don’t want to just creative writing their life, but I could see someone who had moved to the US later in life using that phrasing and not thinking anything of it, or someone who is from Canada and is heavily affected by what we do down here and also in proximity to witness it. Idk, just feel like you came on a bit strong on that one, I wouldn’t ban you myself. The comms rules are pretty clear on what they are about, so I would block it in your shoes.

Just that you wouldnt be able to see the point because you’re from the US.

Given the context it seems more like an argument contradicting OP’s earlier point that some author lived through fascist Italy, saying that this does not imply credibility, deducing that from OP’s supposed ignorance despite also living in a fascist state. I wouldn’t call it a good argument, but it’s not one that can’t be made as someone in the US.

    • OP was all over that thread spreading lib nonsense and directly accusing OOP of being a foreigner trying to manipulate US politics (for an implied ulterior motive). Especially being on .world, it’s a hard comm to keep clean, so the mods don’t have much tolerance before banning libs

                https://massline.org/Politics/ScottH/Fascism-MLM-Conception.pdf

This is the first document summarizing the MLM definition of fascism I found. It explicitly says the US is not fascist. It points to the ability of the people to speak, publish, organize, and assemble.

I am sitting in the US accessing information directly critical of the ruling regime using a search engine run by one of the most intensely capitalist corporations in existence, which I think shows there is not suppression of oppositional thought.

Yes, it is the same document I read a few years ago.

It explicitly states that the United States is not fascist.

But it also says: The fifth principle: Fascism and bourgeois democracy are theoretical extremes or archetypes; all real regimes contain elements of both types of bourgeois government.

However, I believe the relevant principle is the seventh one and its generalization: the laws passed by Trump against our trans comrades or migrant workers are fascist; the same applies to the law Biden signed depriving railway workers of the right to strike, or the economic and military aid provided to Israel to exterminate the working class of Gaza.

Those fascist laws were the work of the two major U.S. liberal parties, and anyone who does fascist things is usually called a fascist. BTW, I’m not MLM, but I think that their definition, with the generalization, covers the common usage of fascism.

                  For reference:

**The Seventh Principle: Individual laws or actions by the bourgeois state can be categorized

as fascist if they correspond to the sorts of laws or actions typical of the fascist theoretical archetype, and whether or not they occur in a regime which we overall categorize as fascist.**

Strangely enough, there is a very common tendency to resist calling laws which are characteristic of fascist countries “fascist laws”, when applied to laws in a country which is overall correctly called a bourgeois democracy. The idea seems to be that there can only be fascist laws in a totally fascist regime! This is complete nonsense.

There are in fact many laws and government policies characteristic of fascism in even the most democratic bourgeois state, and it is by no means wrong to label them as such. In fact it is very important to label them as such, as part of the continuing struggle against fascism.

As we said earlier, every actual bourgeois regime has a mixture of fascist and bourgeois democratic elements. That means that of necessity there are always fascist laws, restrictions, policies, actions and the like on the part of the state. And these fascist elements should be labeled for what they are, and firmly opposed.

Are all repressive laws properly viewed as fascist laws even under a bourgeois democracy? This might depend to some degree on what is meant by a “repressive law” in the first place. But if the term refers to a law that actually restricts or prohibits what would otherwise be properly considered some democratic rights of the working class and masses, then yes, it can and should just as well be called a fascist law too. I see no reason to support the notion that there are “two categories” of the suppression of democratic rights: “ordinary repression”, and “fascist repression”. That would echo back to the old notion that something should only be called “fascist” if it brings all the horrors of Nazi Germany to mind. If there are two distinct categories, “repressive laws” and “fascist laws”, on just what grounds do we decide that a particular law is one or the other? There would need to be some principle which leads us to make the appropriate choice.

Moreover, if we arbitrarily decide to call a law or policy a fascist one only if it occurs in a fully fascist country, this would then force us to say that identical laws, with identical results, are fascist in one country and merely “repressive” in another country! Wouldn‟t that amount to using a euphemism for the law in the bourgeois democratic country? Wouldn‟t it be sort of a cover-up or implicit apology for the bourgeois democratic country? It seems much better to simply say that if a law or policy is a fascist one in a fascist country, then it is a fascist one anywhere else too.

You’re forgetting it also has to be totalitarian under a dictator. It is fundamentally antidemocratic.

Do Dems violently suppress opposition? I don’t recall any peaceful Republican protests being broken up by tear gas and riot cops. Dems aren’t nationalist and are actively anti-racist. Hierarchical is a weird one because that applies to any form of representative government.

My sibling in Koalemos’ ignorance, republicans aren’t the democrat’s opposition. Every democrat proudly repeats the lie that America is the greatest country in the world at every opportunity, while stoking the same fears about illegal immigrants republicans do.

Take a step back and actually think about the president for a second. Think about all the mechanisms that exist that are allowing Trump to do what he wants. So what mechanisms were stopping any previous president from doing the same? You are watching a group of people pass the chair between themselves and calling it democracy.

There’s tons of state violence under Democrats. Do you suppose Democrats didn’t vote for private prisons, to help provide cheap slave labour by the mostly black working poor? Did you suppose the Democrats actually defunded the paramilitary cops in your country, or did they just say they would? Did they fully support the construction of an authoritarian surveillance state where your every word is ingested into the machine to enable targeted ICE raids and unfettered access by the fascist cops. What about the dept of homeland security? And they confirmed all of Trump’s appointments right, including Hegseth? And they never engaged in completely unjustified foreign bombing campaigns? What about the endless votes in support of the nra? Does nobody die because of corporations being largely unregulated in America? You are surrounded by violence but you can’t see it.

I wish there were a viable third option, but there is no reality in which come 2027 there is not a Congress lead by either Democrats or Republicans. It will always be better to have “fascist enablers” in power rather than actual fascists.

We wouldn’t have the saying “scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds”

                Wow.

So you think the saying “if there’s grass on the field, play ball” in reference to fucking children is reasonable because enough people have said it that it’s a saying?

Now I’m starting to understand the logic, or lack thereof, that leads you to call Democrats fascists, despite literally not coinciding with the definition of the word.

We have the saying “scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds” because stupid people exist and are very loud.

            Lol.

Not being able to work together to defy fascism is not the same as actively advancing fascism.

Saying Democrats are fascists is just unbelievably cringe, although I understand that many people who believe that congregate in dbzer0, or get brainwashed by being there, so it’s not like I don’t expect it from you guys. It just doesn’t stop it from making anyone that says it look really, really dumb.

Just here to point out that OP is not the only person that has discovered how dangerously stupid GodlessCommie is. He runs a relatively popular sub and non-stop attempts to dissuade people from voting. Banning anyone that disagrees with him.

I looked through their history, and not going to lie, it looked very one note, I don’t think GodlessCommie is dangerously stupid though. I imagine some of their argumentativeness comes from running a popular comm on an instance where their views aren’t common. OP has made another post on their own comm to continue this spat, I guess just not satisfied with this one? Idk, they seem to have been received well by a number of users here, but if this type of interaction is as common as it seems on that comm (based on number of comment removals in the last ~3 threads) I wouldn’t expect them to be polite about it.

I’m a glorious fence sitter on this one, so feel free to skewer me from both sides. I voted for Kamala, have and will vote for Democrats, but that is clearly not enough. On the other hand, Dems at least superficially disagree on enough other issues that I think voting is worthwhile, so I’m not really going around posting memes about not voting. I think effort put into electing less evil < effort put into helping people in ways that make them less dependent on the face of the two party state, but also effort put into posting in a comm that says in their rules you shouldn’t defend the dems there is worth even less than effort put into making people acknowledge the ways the Dems side with capital on issues that can’t be compromised

You said it by saying you’re a liberal. The right to privately own the means of production is foundational to liberalism.

The first sentence from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism; emphasis mine:

Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on the rights of the individual, liberty, consent of the governed, political equality, right to private property, and equality before the law.

              The second sentence from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_property:

Private property is foundational to capitalism, an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit.

There are two philosophies of capitalism: liberalism, when capitalism is running smoothly; and fascism, when late capitalism is in crisis.

And yes, I’m a liberal. I think people should have freedom. I believe private ownership over the means of production - and virtually everything else - to be sacrosanct.

          FTFY.

Do tell, liberal… up until now, did you believe that the liberal socio-economic order’s inability to exist without fascist violence to be purely an unfortunate coincidence?

        Action.

A political party in another country that protests, applies soft pressure against and criticising murderous acts is a milquetoast response but it is not the same as engaging your military with open slather to murder a population

So as long as the Democrats “protest, apply soft pressure against and criticize murderous acts” while at the same time providing political cover for Israel, and continuing arms sales and US financial support to the regime, then it’s not the same as endorsing genocide? Actions count a lot louder than wordslies. The Democratic party has proven time and again it can’t be trusted to do the right thing. I think you are right that grassroots democrats are generally opposed to these things, but sadly the vast majority of the party establishment is not. Let’s hope the midterms in the US results in enough anti Zionist candidates getting elected that it will make some difference.
