I hate gnome and how it looks and how it works. I’m glad that there is something which is that drastically different for people that enjoy it.
What’s a good word for this?
Critical support?
Commendable. I don’t recommend it, but I commend it.
“I recommend X for [usecase]”
You don’t need to fit into that usecase
Isn’t this simply tolerance?

The word I would use is “recognize”, implying you recognize its value even though it doesn’t meet your own needs. I recognize gnome as a decent desktop environment but someone will have to pry KDE out of my cold dead hands before I’ll use it.
My first desktop was GNOME and I fell in love with it.
Then I met KDE, and I realized there’s just far too many desktops in the sea to be so committal to just one desktop…
I mean, I even got XFCE on my netbook on the side for when I’m feeling frisky and just need a quick read on github for something that I’ve been meaning to look into.
But KDE and I have been in a happy open source desktop relationship for approximately a year now.
“Not my cup of tea”
There was a subreddit ATBGE awful taste but great execution.
That was one of my favourite non-serious subreddits.
“I disapprove of the design of GNOME, but I will defend to the death your right to use it”
there’s not necessarily a term for this.
ask the Germans for this
Schreibtischoberflächenwahlrecht
“Religionsfreiheit” ? 🙃
Hmm, you suggesting KDE and Gnome (and other DEs) are religions, or espoused with religious fervor? Might be something to that, but likely not what OP wants.
Yeah, it was a bit of a joke, because we do tend to take them a bit too serious. 😅
Agreed.
Is probably something like gesundeshebachtrelemmelsondrel or one of their other massive compound words.
“It’s gnome” expresses this just fine.
Everyone hates it. The people that use it just hate themselves more.
(Excuse me while I hide from the angry people with pitchforks. lol.)

Not a word, but a phrase:
“Doesn’t suite my taste, but not a bad product.”
or
“Not for me, but fine for others.”

Your sentiment is both positive and negative, so probably too subtle for one single word you might need a phrase or a clever oxymoron or something like “enthusiastic nonchalance”. Maybe you “critically champion” or “gallantly tolerate” it or something. Maybe try German.
Frankly though, I’d save your hatred for the worthy, keep it pure otherwise you might not get the right mix of fear and anger to reach true endarkenment.
Maybe try German.
Not sure I could construct a “plausible” single word either. The best two-word-phrase I could come up with would be “Gönnendes Desinteresse”.
Apparently “Gönnen” has no simple, positive translation when applied to others. To yourself, it’s indulging in something, allowing oneself to have something. Applied to others, it means anything from a lukewarm “I don’t begrudge you (thing)” over “I’ll let you have (thing)” (in the sense of “I’ll let you have that victory”), a more explicitly approving “I think you deserve (thing)” to a cordial “I’m happy for you to have (thing)”.
So basically, it means some form of “Disinterest while approving of others having something”. I suppose the missing piece is having a single word for “I think others should have this thing”.
“Each to their own” / “whatever floats your boat”?
Adult. I like gnome btw
Good on you.
Respect?
Normal behavior?
