Scorching summer of 2003 triggered first efforts to deal with the problem but heatwaves still have devastating impact
Because we’re ruled by idiots, who are voted into positions of power by even greater idiots and/or gullible people.
Democracy, power by the people for the people, but the people are retarded
Democracy only works well if people are sufficiently educated, critically thinking and engaged.
Not speaking out against democracy here, rather pointing out severe gaps in our education systems.
The older I get the more I fear there is less idiocy involved in the whole mess. The people in power are definitely conscious of their wrong-doing. As for the voter, it is scary how the sociopathic traits and overall individualism has grown in society. Everyday I meet people in support of this scorched earth approach where they’d rather embrace adversity than fight for ideals and bare with the few downsides of living in a group.
Because we keep electing people who are deeply ignorant and/or who don’t give a crap because they think they’ll be spared from the consequences.
But greens and leftist are “dangerous radicals” and one needs to be realistic and pragmatic.
I went for stroll during the heat and walked through a small forest. It’s amazing how well trees cool down the surroundings.
Obviously shade is nice, but it’s even better when it’s been shaded all day long and there’s still dew and moisture in the ferns. There is no good artificial way to create that.
So can we admit we failed to prevent climate change and start geo-engineering?
Let
natural selectionfree market sort it outSo stop socialising the cost of co2 emissions? That would be great
But I’m a socialist though? /s
Sorry, my point was meant sarcastic and that they were never gonna prepare. The plan is to just let people die, so all preparations have been perfectly carried out. That is basically what was decided by not really doing anything. I mean even “Insulate Britain” was branded a terrorist organization lol.
Still hearing people say “We had warm summers in the past” over the sound of ambulance sirens in the background…
record heat wave
“we always had those”
Record setting
Technically they are all recorded.
Well yeah, last year was a record hot year. And the year before that! And the year before that! We should be used to record hot years by now!
Similar to Covid when people said “it’s just like the flu”.
Which was always so odd to me…like, yeah, maybe you can compare it to the flu, but…had those people ever had the flu? That shit is serious, so calling something “just like the flu” and there’s no vaccine yet? Better lockdown the shit out of everything 😅. It was kind of an argument for measures, not against.
Those are called old people, and they are the ones most likely to be in the ambulance.
That’s the thing: I am prepared and I have prepared in the last years. I have bought air conditioning. I have solar on my roof. I built shady places in my garden. I am prepared and so are Millions of us. There are people who can’t prepare (f.e. because their landlord is not allowing air conditioning) and all those people who haven’t payed attention
If we had listened to the warning signs for the past decades, we wouldn’t have these heat waves in the first place
But won’t somebody think of the economy?? And by economy I mean shareholders not producing anything of value but just sit on their rich asses, wanting to get even richer by doing even more nothing.
There are some people thinking of the economy. It’s just a small group. They are called politicians.
There is even more economy needed to produce solar cells. But once they are bought, they create energy every day and people stop being dependent on daily shipments, like they are with oil.
The big question is: why has the elite postponed the big usage of solar cells by 50 years? Are they ready to lose that lever now or are they going to pull it before it is gone.
One word: populists.
It might be warm now, but at least we have fewer brown people here
For the same reason that the parties in government aren’t the ones seriously implementing the best possible adaptations for the population: lobbying, lobbying, lobbying—and everyone has a price. Well, there you go.
The same thing have been posted last year and will be posted next.
Not only global warming. Decades of AI advancements, Chinese growth, water wars, advancing third world countries, …
It started with the continued exploitation of the third world to bribe the population with a good life. The public broadcasters had the duty to make the population aware so that parties would have become popular who would have taken responsibility. Instead we were just made aware and accepted our helplessness.
The mindset that we can have a good life while others suffer is the same that doesn’t care if our future selfs suffer.
Regardless of the broadcasters, in a democracy the population is responsible. We should have demanded better public debates and better politics.
It would have required emotionally recognizing that things are changeling and money that many people individually don’t have a lot of to change the way homes as equiped.

You call that a changeling?
Reginald, bring me my sleeping carafe.
Touché.
