Telling them they suck and then voting for them anyway is the Schumer example of a sternly worded letter. It doesn’t do shit. This method is what’s allowed the party to shift so far to the right, you are allowing them to do whatever they want with zero consequence. So like children, they keep testing your breaking point. We are now at genocide denial and that isn’t enough for most liberals to abandon them.
People say this all day every year and are ignored. It was made incredibly clear last election what had to happen, and the democrats didnt do it. Stop absolving the party of blame.
Also fuck off with that lesser evil bullshit.
You can’t insult one without criticizing the other; they bOtH enable each other, they BoTh blame the other, neither one could maintain power without the other.
I vote in every election, and you should, too.
Because it’s funny.
you fisher price baby brain
I love this insult. I’m gonna start using it.
So many libs fail the “You hate pancakes” test every hour.
I don’t know what this means, can someone was explain the reference?
I think it might be this:
https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/2659979-no-bitch-dats-a-whole-new-x-wtf-is-you-talkin-about
Various different screenshots of the same tweet. It’s a common logic error called a false dichotomy. People do it all the time, and it makes it very difficult to converse with them at all, because they’re unable to comprehend that being for or against one thing does not make you against or for some other thing they see as its opposite.
The far right criticises the Dems as much as the left.
You 100% have to make it clear where the critique comes from.
We criticize them for vastly different things though… The right says they’re communists and we say they’re not communist enough (or at all, really).
Problem is that not all critique is equal. Someone can just barf in “dems suck” into an online argument, and that won’t tell which side of the aisle they’re on…
in a discussion about why democrats suck, talking about, republicans are not relevant at all. if someone makes a valid argument it does not matter if they are a republican.
“the dnc only back establishment candidates and will actively hurt progressive candidates even to ensure a republican victory” has nothing to do with republicans, and you can assume that i would make the same complaint of the republicans
Thats not a critique though, thats an opinion.
You really don’t. Its pretty clear by what the critique is, whether or not it comes from a leftist or a right wing nut. Its only difficult to tell the difference if you lack basic comprehension.
Yes, this screenshot is just another “If you don’t understand my unqualified opinion you’re just too stupid to figure it out” hot take by someone thinking they’re the smartest person in the room.
No, criticizing the dems doesn’t automatically mean criticism of anyone to the right of them.
it’s not relevant
Criticism is not evaluated by where it comes from, but by whether it’s true or false. If you don’t put truth first, you don’t get to have a say in anything anyway.
MAGA criticizes the Dems for being too far left. I criticize the Dems for being too far right.
We are not the same.
Fr
a complaint about the dems being too far left has nothing to do with republicans though
Based
The source does matter. I won’t support a MAGAt just because they bash the Dems.
If Putin said the sky is blue, would you suddenly insist its black?
No but I’d sure check first.
Then that makes you just another tribalist
Nope, I just don’t accept criticism (or anything else really) from people who can’t even form a coherent thought and are just regurgitating sound snippets from pundits…
Thats not what you just said though. You said the source of the argument makes it dismissable, now you are stating that it is the quality you care about. Disingenuous dumbass.
The issue is the amount of bad faith critique levelled by people on the right. Supporting one of their valid criticisms without mentioning that they are normally full of shit appears like a blanket endorsement even though they may bring up only a single good point it’ll be seen as complete support.
Sure, but thats then an issue with how acknowledges criticism, not wether or not one does it at all.
Precisely my point.
Not at all your point. They made an actual good point, you just said some tribalist nonsense.
Ya sure but that isn’t really what your comment was saying which was more along the lines of “ignore all criticism until you know where it came from”.
Anyways, if the criticism is valid, you are just plugging your ears at that point.
That’s… nowhere close to what I actually stated.
Tbh, yeah, I’m a bit off base.
what kinda idiot lets themselves be concern trolled in 2026
like a good argument is valid regardless of source but republicans and their cognitive dissonance, double standards and general bad faith arguments means sitting through their bullshit in hopes of one is just silly
Who is talking about sitting thru some discussion with republicans in hopes of hearing a good argument? Youre just making shit up to argue against. Relate to what the other is actually stating, you imbecile.
Sure but that’s not the point. If someone gives good criticism, that criticism is good.
If you don’t believe that, you’re a tribalist.
The world gets better when everyone acknowledges and fixes their problems when they’re pointed out. It doesn’t matter at all whether it’s a good person or a bad person that points them out, what a gift it is for someone to show you your flaws.
but no one should be expected to engage with repubs
they lost the privilege
Thats not what they’re arguing. Jesus Christ you motherfuckers are thicker than bricks.
Motivation and context matters because if you don’t pay attention to them you risk ending up an accessory to some asshole’s motte-and-bailey fallacy in progress.
You are now stating that the argument is not good, but in fact a fallacy. You are thus yourself, ironically, doing the fallacy you are talking about others doing. You have moved from the position of “dont engage with good arguments or criticism of they come from a republican” and are now pretending your position is “don’t engage with bad arguments from republicans.”
But that would be obvious in the stupidity of the criticism
Not if the part you’re responding to is the motte and you’re ignoring the motivation and context!
Then that would not be a good argument, which they therefore would not find reason to take seriously. Youre doing an actual motte-and-bailey yourself right now.
The “motte” part, by definition, is a good argument. It’s only when they spring the “bailey” on you that the ulterior motive behind getting you to agree to it becomes clear.
The motte is just a reasonable position. It is also not a trap that get sprung. It is a place one retreats to when pushed on ones actual position.
The motte: “dont engage with bad critique from republicans”
The Bailey: “Don’t engage with critique no matter the quality, if it comes from republicans”
Humans evaluate facts by the source. People trust their in-group. Someone is far more likely to listen to someone they trust and perceive as in-group than someone who’s out-group, regardless of the facts.
Sometimes this makes sense. If a guy in a nazi uniform told me the bar down the street is a great time, I’m probably not going to go there.
“This bar is not good” is an opinion, not a reasonable piece of critique or an argument. Presenting this analogy as if it is pertinent to the discussion is incredibly disingenuous and you know it.
Lol. No. The parent quote was
Criticism is not evaluated by where it comes from, but by whether it’s true or false
My response rejects “criticism is not evaluated by where it comes from” (using a colloquial sense of criticism, like if a place is good or bad). People definitely evaluate based in part on the source.
You’re making a huge equivocation fallacy here.
I don’t know what everyone else is thinking, but to my mind people consider the source. You’re more likely to believe a reputable newspaper than a tabloid, I hope.
Your argument is one about an opinion, not a piece of critique. You are basically asking if the reader believes they would find a bar frequented by a man in an SS uniform enjoyable. This differs from the question: “If a man in an SS uniform were to point out that Kamala Harris is just as complicit in the palestinian genocide as Trump is, would you dismiss the argument outright, due to the dress of the man?”
While all critique rests upon opinion, not all opinion is critique.
In that case you’re just willfully misinterpreting clear language. Speaking like that “X is not treated in Y way” is commonly understood to have an implicit “should” substituting “is”. If your grasp of the English language is at the level youre demonstrating here, then you would also know that common parlance. So an extra level of being disingenuous.
On top of that youre still doing the thing wrong. Youre not presenting criticism in your analogy, but an opinion.
Doesn’t matter, you get accused of being undercover MAGA anyway. Been there, done that.
Yeah any critique of Democrats get you called either a Russian shill, a bot or an undercover republican. Point out that Obama did fuck all about the Supreme Court or Clinton wrote the crime bill and that apparently means you love Trump.
And taking into account that Obama and a lot of other dems just chilled up with Trump and a lot of reps in the Island™, it’s to know that most dems aren’t good either. They both just want more power and all of your money.
Would depend on the content of the critique Id think, like, if your criticism of the dems is that theyre far too conservative, thats not the sort of thing that someone that considers conservatism a good thing would say. If you give some vague attack on their moral character or intelligence or such, that lines up more with how the right would also criticism them, and therefore invites more confusion.
Hence why I said that your criticism should make it obvious where you stand.
I’m not saying that you need to put “fuck the GOP too” next to every criticism. But if all you say is “fuck the Dems for ruining the country”, it’s not obvious where you stand.
“Fuck the Dems for being too conservative” on the other hand makes it obvious.
Both sides criticize them for being elitist and corrupt.
How do you distinguish between left and right, when the right have been brainwashed into thinking their side is the one “draining the swamp”?
It’s easy to tell as the right’s criticism is they eat babies, they’re demon spawn, welfare queens, nothing true just emotionally applied rhetoric. Where as the left would say they’re barely better than Republicans in regards to wars and keeping them going in perpetuity, they could pass universal healthcare instead of what the ACA was but through either naivety or incompetence reached out to Republicans to help make a plan “both parties would be happy with” for the Republicans not to vote for it at all.
Eh, universal healthcare got side shuffled by the insurance company consultants and thus got us the ACA, a compromised deal if ever there was one. We really need universal healthcare, but the Herbalife grifters wouldn’t then have as much ways to peddle their MLM.
Where as the left would say they’re barely better than Republicans
Well, that and that they eat babies (just like the republicans.)
I wouldn’t say that REpublicans eat them, but they sure will rape them.
Bill clinton: Famous republican
Might as well have been with how much he worked with them.
Thats just what dems do
The primary difference is that Republicunts completely discount any thing that is left wing as impossible to achieve, often by using circular logic that boils down to a faulty appeal to authority (religion), with a light sprinkling of racism and white superiority rhetoric mixed in.
Leftists actually use verifiable data points and publically available economic figures mixed with objective reasoning to levy their critiques.
Reading comprehension includes understanding the implied context of the words, not just being able to pronounce them properly.
Maybe you do. Anyone with a brain realizes real criticism from fake and manufactured criticism.
If you are too dumb to realize it, or worried about those too dumb to realize it, write your own posts. No offense but you are wrong headed and I don’t care how many half wits endorsed your point here.
Yeeeah, you won’t be winning any arguments with an immediate ad hominem. Off to the blocklist fuck ye
Good riddance. The last thing I want is to argue with some well minded individual that sincerely believes the dem establishment is the way out of our situation.
How many times do you have to be wrong before you admit a mistake. That’s rhetorical, I don’t care what you think now.
Thats not what an ad hominem is you fucking idiot. You fool, you buffoon. Learn what the concepts you speak of mean, you absolute dolt.
An ad hominem isn’t “when you get insulted.” An ad hominem is when the quality of your character is tied to the quality of your argument - Something plenty of people do here all the time.
And you’re even fucking it more up, because the person isn’t even insulting you, unless you count yourself to be someone without a brain! Fucking incredible moronic self-own.“You suck” is not an ad hominem. “You suck and your argument sucks” is also not an ad hominem. “You suck and therefore your statement sucks” is an ad hominem.
Now, an ad hominem does not need to make the correlation between character and argument overt. It is enough that the argument is dismissed on the basis of the person making it, though not every case where this happens will be an ad hominem.More examples:
“Youre a Russian propagandist and I dont listen to Russian propaganda!” <- Adhummer
“Youre a bot, so I dont have to engage” <- add hummus
“Typical statement from .ml users, youre all saying silly stuff” <- alt hostCalling you brainless is just calling you brainless. It is only when the argument is dismissed directly or indirectly through this personal demeaning that it is a logical fallacy. And it doesn’t even have to be an insult! But you’re too fucking stupid to see that, you just throw words around that you have picked up thru cultural osmosis without ever learning them. Idiot.
The other thing is that some people seem to only drag dems and anyone main stream calls “progressive.”
Why would I waste my time chumming it up with genocidal blue dogs about how much the GOP sucks? We both know that.
Because they don’t want to waste time in an echo chamber repeating what everyone already knows. Republicans suck. Everyone agrees on this; there isn’t a point to beating that dead horse.
No no, we must support the lesser evil and in doing so forget that they are evil. The genocide in Gaza started on January 20th, 2025, and would’ve never started if Harris had won.

Yes genocide is hilarious. Psycho.
Nice strawman

Outright genocide denial
Insane admission
You unironically believe that when you vote for the lesser evil you should forget that you voted for evil? You unironically believe the genocide started in 2025? You unironically believe Harris would’ve prevented the genocide from ever starting?

is this an honest mistake with the wrong link? or a bid to get someone to ban you from posting? or checking who would read your source?
or is the link broken on my end?
https://lemmy.ml/post/3509042 goes to a discussion about parcels
Lmao, that is so weird, I have never seen that post. Thanks for letting me know. The link was missing a digit, it seems. Fixed now.
True, but i think there’s something to be said about moving past the democrats mediocrity and calling out directly the republican president leader of a global sex trafficking ring. Like yeah schumer sucks he’s pathetic. Let’s put that aside because donald fucking trump is still running the misnamed epstein child sex trafficking ring.
100% agree.
Also, fuck the GOP.
That one’s on the house.
Given the majority of the US voted for Trump, yeah you kind of do. Maga’s continue to blame all their problems on Democrats. So if you criticize Democrats, who have no power in the House, Senate, Supreme Court, and Presidency, people are going to assume you are MAGA
so you would have a further rightward DNC?
just because you are not the worst thing ever does not give you immunity from criticism.
the democrats SUCK. wether the republicans suck harder is not relevant and does not make the critique less true, and voting blue no matter who has given us candidates that would have been republicans 10 years ago
It’s a public Twitter post, not a Lemmy post on .ml!
If a stranger in public tells you that Democrats are bad your first thought is that they are Maga, not they they are leftist.
that would be a bad assumption. because the democrats are fucking terrible and i am not maga
Given the majority of the US voted for Trump,
Doubt. Without checking I would guess the majority didn’t vote at all.
The majority of voters*
Pretty sure he lost the popular vote
sigh The majority of electoral votes. Your semantic games are tiring. The majority of the voters that matter voted for him. it’s dumb and I’d love to change it but this is the world we currently live in. So unless you’re ready to violently overthrow the government (and good luck with that), deal with the problem as it exists, not as you wish it existed
Not only that. Often the purpose of shitting on Dems without mentioning the GOP is to serve the GOP.
Not always, but more often than not here.
Adding the layer of “fuck the GOP” helps, along with being specific about individuals when appropriate.
When did the majority start voting at all?
It hapened in 2020. But the computer keeps putting 2020 as 1., don’t ask me why. But it’s not much of a majority. And midterms will likely fall under 50 pc of eligible voters, especially now with the president being Israel’s shit bitch with a dirty asshole that raised the price of gas a lot.
Exactly this - if I don’t know you personally well enough to know that you “of course” would never support republicans, then I have no way to tell from which direction you are attacking the Dems.
Once we reached a point where it was no longer safe to assume that Nazi shit and overt racism, bigotry, etc. was sarcastic, we all had to stop assuming that anyone knew we were better than that. That’s also when /s tags became absolutely necessary again, even when saying some absolutely bonkers shit. I long for the days when I could safely assume that no one was that stupid, and that they would assume I wasn’t either.
It’s almost like they think everyone is on the left.
I bet it’s cause they only ever argue with leftists, so that’s all they see. Conservatives aren’t real to them because they never talk to conservatives.
fisher price baby brain
Killer band name, we still pointing that out?
There are three groups at play here
- The average voter who has a fischer price baby brain
- Novice politicians who know the facts, but not how to explain them to the fischer price baby brains
- Experienced rhetoricians who say “also the Republicans are worse” because we know how to talk down to the fischer price baby brains
You fall into the second group. You’re a big kid, but you don’t know enough to look after the babies yet. You don’t even think it’s your responsibility to educate the babies.
25% did, almost 50% didn’t show up.

Seems like you have to be pretty fucking stupid in order to run a campaign that has you losing to Trump, and yet the dems have managed to do it twice.
People dont vote for democrats because they suck and voting for them either does nothing or actively makes things worse. That, or being attacked from two sides. Or maybe americans just like trump. Enjoy the 2 dollars gas.
Lmao, if the “attacks” from the left (people saying they won’t vote for someone committing a genocide) is what Kamala lose, then maybe she should’ve listened to what people were saying. Which again means she sucked, just like Hillary.
Thankfully that stopped the genocide and now the middle east is free and prosperous.
Or did it cause a new war, more conflict, even more genocide and spilled over to other regions?
I’m sure the parents of the dead Iranian girls are very thankful for your service.
Which dismisses nothing
Wow! What a well-reasoned response! I will now write in Hilary Clinton.
the dems have managed to do it twice.
Nearly three times. Biden only won by 40k votes across three states. Anyone who thinks he was a lock could have been proven wrong by some bad weather or a marginal (.3%) shift in public sentiment.
Spineless democrats is what caused trump to win both times
By definition, voters caused that. Enjoy the consequences, I guess. In 6 years they will vote for republicans again anyway.
Democrats don’t really have clear messaging. Are we pro Muslim? Are we pro LGBT? Are we pro Marxism? Pro working class? Where do we stand on taxes? Equality? DEI? At this point I could tell you a lot more about what we’re against.
I like how the replies to this message are almost identical, starting word for word the same. Some needs to increase the temperature a little bit.
Being against burning the country and all alliances just to make 6 people rich is enough of a message for me Ina 2 party system. As a bonus on top, not hating mexicans, muslims and gays. I know it sounds like a low bar, but bar is very much that low.
Democrats have a very clear message, they speak volumes by their inaction
Democrats have a very clear message. What they support is obvious.
What caused the president to win, was forcing uneectable candidates on the dems and then shouting down all criticism of them, as if pretending they aren’t worthless worked.
Get off your high horse, we knew what the republicans were, and what the democrats were, and we trusted the opposition to what is beyond any doubt the Controlled Opposition of the Oligarchy.
Anyone with a brain would’ve known anointed kamala with no contest was handing the election to the now president. Everyone. Oh, you weren’t one? What does that say about your understanding?
No offense but I don’t want to wade through your shit again forcing another doomed to fail dem on us.
What caused the president to win is people voted for him. After 4 years of scandals, corruption and a million deaths. Appealing to “anyone with a brain” is a losing strategy.
I like how this comment appears to be bait for Americans with three braincells
deleted by creator
I love seeing this shit before every election.
It’s there all the time, you just don’t notice when popular media hasn’t primed your brain to tune into politics every two years.
I am very interested in politics year around, and as a small reminder: the world exists out of america, each country with their own elections. The two year cycle is just in the US. There’s also popular media outside of the us.
And yet you dont pay enough attention to notice these things outside the US election cycle
Says a random person online. Cool story.

No, keeping the oligarchy out of power is the only goal
On why people do not vote and why they dont vote democrat
The time for going after politicians is all the time and the frequency is to do it constantly. Especially democrats, you do not owe them anything when the party fails you.
we
This isn’t a Democratic party com
One month before ballots are cast is not that time.
And neither is two months before ballots are cast, or three months before ballots are cast, and of course when it comes to the general election year is right out. The end result is that the time where you shouldn’t criticise The Party becomes a nontrivial fraction of a person’s whole life, and especially the politically significant portions of a person’s life (given that “right before the election” would normally be a very good time to put a proverbial gun to the party’s head). You’re basically sacrificing a good chunk of democracy to protect the Democrats at that point.
Also if a dem candidate is running on a bad platform the relevant time to criticize that is while they’re running, since that’s the whole point of the platform. There are criticisms which make the most sense to mention at specific times. Trying to mention a Democrats anti-trans ad, for example, and how that negatively affects trans people after the ad is off the air and the election is over makes no sense.

Shamefully, good policy doesn’t win elections. Popular policy wins elections. Good policy is how you pick your candidates. Popular policies is how you get your candidate elected.
If that were true then you’d never had Harris or Biden as nominees. Universal healthcare is massively popular, as is almost every other common left-wing policy - No wars, less money for the military, fix infrastructure. These are all policies with majority support, they are massively popular.
Politicians get picked by an oligarchic elite that then manipulates the minority of the electorate who isn’t completely checked out or alienated from voting, into voting for their capitalist stooge. Anytime an actual popular candidate appears to get traction they are immediately hamstrung and sabotaged. This is not a bug but a feature of the democratic party and the larger duopolitic structure that masquerades as a “democracy”.And, this is crucial, I really need the non voters to listen to this:
We can all influence how popular a policy is
Exactly. People tend to be a bit myopic on the left. They struggle to look beyond their distaste for specific parts of specific people to see the ideal strategy for change.
Republicans get this in spades. Your campaign rhetoric is virtually irrelevant after the primaries beyond its value in securing votes. Securing state and local government control is critical if you want to protect (or disenfranchise) a specific voting bloc.
We’re so busy eating our own for not being good enough that we just end up losing.
I’m aggressively progressive - I support reparations, reducing funding of police in favor of mental health care, free health care for all, UBI, etc - but holy shit does the left have no clue how to achieve their goals.
UBI is cool, but I recently watched some videos by Hazel Thayer that advocate for Universal Basic Services instead. Basically, if you give people UBI that covers the cost of rent, you’re putting money in landlords’ pockets. And I hate landlords! Guaranteeing free social housing for everyone would fix that problem. We should have basic housing, basic food, basic medicine, basic education, basic clothes, basic electricity.
UBI is cool because it’s easy to implement in policy overnight. It would take one single bill to do it. But UBS is a recipe for a better society, with less wealth going to capitalists.
Valid argument and probably correct. You’ve certainly nailed the appeal of UBI vs UBS.
The only thing I’d consider “better” about UBI is some amount of discretionary spending and choice
I might be be happy living in a shoebox apartment in NYC and keeping extra money for food or entertainment, while you might prefer a nicer apartment with simple food and your existing library of books.
The popularity of a policy does not at all influence whether a dem advances it.
Bingo. Can’t do it after an election because it’s too early to matter, have to see how they govern first. Can’t do it during a primary because we need to focus on electability. Can’t do it for the general because we have to win.
Amazing how there will always be time later for self reflection right around the corner…
Please quote the part where I said any of that.
If people want to respond to my comment, respond to MY comment, don’t insert a more convenient argument just because you’re pissed at the DNC

Downvoted for ableism
you replied to a comment that was a reply to me, parroting their position. Read up literally one more in the chain from your reply
You’re right, you do have to always be careful about how you criticise the democrats. There’s a technique to do it without radicalising people to the right. I’ve done it heaps of times.
People are telling you to stop criticising the democrats because you haven’t mastered that technique yet.
Then please enlighten us about this mysterious technique, then?
Yeah sure, I’ll give you the easy version. There’s more advanced techniques, but this first one is so simple anyone can do it:
Say “Fuck the GOP” when you criticise the dems.
Make space communism happen tomorrow or your argument is invalid.
By the same argument noone should vote democrat either since it won’t fix everything insantly
Did I say that? Don’t put words in my mouth.
I caucused for Bernie. I’ve been politically active for two decades. I rail against the establishment Democrats just about every chance I get and spent a year not speaking to my brother over it and he’s a Democrat.
So, with all due respect, fuck you for assuming I would carry that sentiment outside of this time frame. Don’t project your issues with the Democratic party onto me. Have an actual conversation.
Did I say that? Don’t put words in my mouth.
Well you’re echoing the people who do say that so it’s impossible to distinguish you without more details, but sure, in that case tell me: What’s your acceptable timeframe for criticizing the Democrats before the midterm and before the general?

We are not eating our own because we are not democrats
We have a problem with eating our own.
We are not yours, you liberal scum bag. Democrats are our enemies
Its always the right time to critique a shitty politician and the democrats suck ass. Buying into this “now is not the time” rhetoric is yet another in a long line of child-like tricks the DNC have got their voterbase to fall for. You don’t see the dems have the same expected unity for their own, if they appear slightly too leftist, nor do you see them have any such discipline for outsiders running in red districts.

despite all available evidence.
Like what? Democrats running on deporting more people than Trump, democrats deporting more people than Trump, democrats throwing marginalised groups under the bus, democrats increasing police budgets, democrats expanding ICE budgets and authority, democrats doing fuck-all about Roe v. Wade, democrats committing genocide, democrats supporting foreign wars, democrats passing out massive fracking contracts or something else? Or did you mean how they probably wouldn’t have posted a mean easter message?
This is accurate. Many are actually accelerationists hoping for the collapse of the country as a catalyst for change. It’s poorly conceived and selfish in the extreme.
The degree to which ever single insufferable BlueMaga shitlib have simultaneously started bleating “accelerationist” constantly while never actually using it right really gives away the degree to which you all just receive your talking points and parrot them without even understanding what they mean.
What bluemaga podcast was it that had some guy appropriate the word “accelerationist”? I see you guys misuse it all the time now.
An accelerationist is not “someone who wants things to be bad.” It is a marxist tendency that believes because capitalists need to accumulate capital in order for contradictions to appear - which is necessary for the proletariat to become sufficiently alienated in order to rise up - then it is in the interest of the marxist to make this happen as quickly as possible, so as to bring about conditions fertile for socialism as quickly as possible.
An accelerationist will therefore vote for and support the most competent capitalist, because they will most efficiently accumulate capital. The accelerationist position is pretty commonly understood to be one that supports the democrats, since they are more competent managers of empire. If youre going to throw concepts around, then learn what they are.
That’s a brand new insult
It’s certainly a Brand insult.
America is in this mess because the average voter doesn’t have those two brain cells. You can’t just go around expecting Americans to be literate!!
the average voter doesn’t have those two brain cells
Tired of “average voter” bashing, when the root of our problems isn’t with the working class to begin with.
They’re just a bunch of hostages blaming one another for supporting the wrong plane hijacker. None of them have any material control over policy or infrastructure.
Literacy and critical thinking are being actively sabotaged by the conservatives. You can’t pretend that isn’t happening.
The fact that the average American reads at a children’s level is terrible, but it’s kinda not entirely their fault. I’m not really trying to bash them.
There are people who are politically educated, who have good values and knowledge of the world and the ability to think critically. But they have one flaw. And it is these people I intend to bash for their incompetence.
That one flaw is, that they think everyone else is as smart as them. They don’t understand that not everyone had the same opportunities as them. They don’t know how to talk down to an audience. Trump knows how to talk down to an audience, and the uneducated people love him for it! But these educated people expect everyone to have the same political literacy as them. And they’re alienating those masses.
When you expect someone to be smart, you can make them feel stupid. A lot of uneducated Republican voters hate us university-educated city folk, because we make them feel stupid. There’s a rising tide of anti-intellectualism in society because we can’t talk to the people who haven’t been given intellectual privilege. We’re alienating them.
And it’s not exactly helping that I can go to a commie community and see “read Lenin or GTFO”. That’s not how we build class consciousness with the educationally underprivileged.
Most people get their political news from Instagram reels and chatbots quoting Reddit. They’re depending on us educated people, who they would call “elites”, to tell them what’s happening. And it is the Trumps of the world who understand that, who make those Instagram reels. That is why we’re losing.
That’s what Modi did in India. It’s what Murdoch did with the press. It’s how fascists always grow their influence.
We gotta talk down to people.
Literacy and critical thinking are being actively sabotaged by the conservatives.
That’s certainly the liberal line. I’ve seen conservatives say the exact same thing about liberals.
“Critical Thinking” gets billed as an objective analysis, but inevitably mutates into “if you don’t agree with me, you didn’t think about the issue hard enough”.
Ayn Rand’s Objectivists and Sam Bankman-Fried’s Longtermists have been beating the drum on “critical thinking” being deficit for their respective careers, and look where it got them.
Most people get their political news from Instagram reels and chatbots quoting Reddit
That’s not even remotely true.
And herein is the problem. You’ve landed on a scapegoat that helps justify your disgust for “average voters”. But you’re starting from a premise of other people being inferior. And you’re working backwards into supporting claims that back up your gut instinct.
D’awwww, you think they voted themselves into this mess?
Dear God, where were you educated? Do share (this should be hilarious)
Democrats and republicans are politically illiterate
The average voter doesn’t vote. Seems like the issue is the average campaigner that cannot figure out a way to make themselves more appealing than a rapist with a spraytan, which is impressive given that many non-voters yelled out some pretty easy demands for all to hear.
Between the fact that the right will legitimately criticize the dems as well, and that they will sometimes even do so in a way that may actually sound like a leftist complaint either to A) point out that they don’t serve your leftist views or B) to try to add legitimacy to their character by pretending to be a leftist… you might still have to actively say fuck the GOP.
It should be said just for good measure. It’s also kind of cathartic. Fuck the GOP.
All the classy people are doing it. A good day and fuck the GOP to you too sir! 🧐🥂
No… it doesn’t. Someone on the right could use the same logic to say that criticizing anyone to the left of the dems is implied.
If someone criticizes the dems for being too woke, or whatever other right-wing bullshit, that implies they’re doing so because they’re criticizing anyone left of the dems. If someone criticizes a dem for being transphobic, or too conservative/centrist, or not meaningfully pushing for change while in power, that implies they’re doing so from a left-wing perspective and aren’t supporting Republicans or whatever.
